Well I'm a tech at a dealership down here so I can try and help. Can you explain exactly what the problem is a little more? Does anything else not work? Or is it just the head light?

Refer to the owner's manual. There is a stalk on the left hand side of the steering column.

Did you turn the lights on using the switch on the turn signal stalk?

A few additions to make me feel cool.
Keep in mind the Tacoma does not have the auto headlights like a chevy. As everyone else has said it works just like the wipers except on the left, turn the end of the turn signal post forward.

I'm really hoping he's not refering to where the actual switch is if he said he's worked on cars his whole life and has tried all the simple stuff but can't find the switch.

I agree but I know it took me some time to get used to it after selling my Chevy.

Yeah, I was just thinking maybe he lost a fuse of something. I had a 2009 tacoma come in today with no tail lights, had the ABS light and skid contorl lights on the dash lit up, and wouldn't come out of park. It was the brake fuse or "stop" as its labled in the fuse box. That truck only had 7000 miles on it too.

i know where the switch is and i have turned it on. NOTHING. i have restored and rebuilt cars from ground up so i am past the " stalk on the left just like the wipers" problem. i have the upgraded factory alarm and have checked with my multi meter all the connections and the fuses and all are good - i think it is a faulty switch control. the dash light lights up when i switch the switch to driving lights ( one tick) and stays the same on both ticks or headlights on. high beams and fog lights are not working either. I set the alarm off and the horn sounds but no flashing lights ( do not know if they are suppose to flash). the overhead temp display also is not working. just frustrated with it being about 4 hours old and all. thanks anyways.

The overhead display is the only other thing you notice not working though correct?

sorry - my buddy just got here with his 08 dc and he is stumped. over head display lights up but only has dashes across the display - no temp or direction. i have all accesseries including tailights hazards signal lights inlerior lights - just no driving lights, regular beam and hi beam. when we turn on the lights ( one tick) the dash display comes on but does not change as we switch to full on headlights ( two ticks-turns). the owners manual shows a different icon when headlights are turned on and that icon does NOT come on.. we thing a faulty switch. any ideas??? thanks

ALRIGHT- i am at the dealership (on my labtop) and the problem is a faulty switch. first tick ( dashlights etc) works but the second tick ( low beams) is faulty. because of this the fog lights don't work because they run in conjunction with the low beams. i should be out of here in a few minutes. the over head display is faulty and they are replacing it next week. I have to say the dealership really stepped up - they gave me 5 free oil changes for the inconvienience BUT i do my own changes so i got 24 free OEM oil filters and we are calling it a day. thanks to all who posted and it seems like a pretty good forum. i will be back. thanks

Looks like you were on the right track with the faulty switch. Sucks that you have those problems on a brand new vehicle.

Glad the dealership stepped up. They should do something, after all you probably paid close to $1500 for freight and PDI. You would think the headlights would be one of the first things they check while doing the PDI.

^ It should've been. I would be willing to bet they just checked off everything on the list, drove it around the block and called it a day.

they did the work under warranty seeing as the truck was less than 1 hour old when the problem arose. it is the left side headlight stalk - don't know the part number and i am sure it is a few hundred dollars. i had my 85 lbs boxer(dog) in my brand new 2001 4runner ltd and he decided to get excited while i was talking to one of my foreman at work and scratched the living hell out of my steering wheel and broke off the headlight stalk. that was almost a thousand dollar fix- new steering wheel, headlight stalk, dash pieces etc and toyota politely declined to warranty it. it was my fault anyway. I was happy with the 24 free oil filters because i have a hoist at work and do all my own maintenance etc. i just have to hide them cause there are about 5 trucks at work that have the same engine as i do and i know they will go "missing". ( 3 fj cruisers, 2 tacomas). thanks all. this is a great forum
