Are there any events in mid September in the Ouray area? I'll be out there for 2 weeks and wouldn't mind running some trails with some other Tacomas.

biggest event to look out for is winter :D it is not uncommon to see some hefty snow accumulations in the San Juans in September

except most trails in the San Juans include shelf roads... i for one am not a fan of snow on shelf roads... busted trail up and over Ophir pass with Jace once in September through 2ft of snow...after realizing the shelf road we came down on the back side, i don't think i would do that again! we couldn't see more than 20ft in front of us, so we couldn't see the drop off and lack of pullout spots

Lots of spots to camp on Greer. A few random pull offs on Buckhorn road and the other side of the pass as well.

    Guess I'll make this legit.
    Sunday the 7th
Greer road. Near the top of Buckhorn Pass.
    http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/arp/recreation/ohv/recarea/?recid=80698&actid=94

Meet at JJ's gas station/corner store, 4015 S. Taft Hill Road.

    Leave promptly at 9:00 am
Be gassed up, bring a lunch.

Trail is not difficult at all, I'd rate it a 2 maybe. Unless there is more snow, that changes things a bit. Leisurely scenic drive up Buckhorn Canyon, will be passing Ballard road along the way but I personally have no interest in mud pits. This particular trail (Ballard) is more fun in the mid to late summer. Will be happy to go down that trail for a ways so others can see what it's about.

Greer Road is a loop road with off shoots here and there.
Return trip will be over the pass and down Pingree Park road to HY 14, Poudre Canyon.

Snow! I'm hoping to avoid that, I'm wanting to see the fall colors. The only time I've ever been able to go to Colorado was for snowboarding trips so I know what it looks like when it's covered in snow. I'm wanting a change of scenery on this trip. I plan on driving all of the normal trails around Ouray that every tourist does but I'm really looking forward to it. I'm taking my mountain bike too, plan to ride a lot. Know any good spots?

Telluride Blues and Brews is September 18-20. Film festival is 4-7. There's a run over Imogene on the 12th. Road bike event on the 26th. Also the ski resort turns into a mountain bike park in the summer if you like downhilling.

Ouray has a quilt show going on all month, and a bbq/rodeo on Labor Day weekend.

Aspens should be starting to change/peak somewhere in there (mid Sept to mid Oct).

Or did you specifically mean forum get-togethers? :)

Nah not specifically. This is great info. I do plan to visit the Telluride bike park since they run a free gondola. I'm going to leave my road bike at home but I'd love to spectate the road bike event but I'll be home by then. My dates are 6-20 of September. The Blues and Brews thing sounds awesome but I'm thinking about visiting Moab for the last few days of my trip but not set in stone. What kind of Imogene run is on the 12th? Is it literally a run? I really hope to be there for the peak aspen colors, I'd love to see that.

B&B and the Jazz and Bluegrass festivals are some of their biggest summer draws. Can be hard to find accommodations during them. Town turns into a giant crowded concert. http://www.tellurideblues.com/

Yes, it's literally a run. http://www.imogenerun.com/ I'm not sure if the road is completely closed to 4x4 traffic or not, but I think it is throughout the morning.

    Never enough
Hey everyone I'm looking to meet some other members and get out and do some wheeling in the beautiful Colorado wilderness. I must admit that I am a complete novice and I am basically looking for some people to show me the ropes so I don't get in over my head. Currently I'm running a stock DCSB TRD OR. I'm looking to upgrade to some more aggressive tires but can't bring myself to do it until the stock rugged fails are worn out. What better way to speed that up than wheeling right? If anyone is interested in helping out a total noob I'd really appreciate it. I am off work this whole week and otherwise would be available evenings and weekends.
