Curious whether I have any options with Toyota as the frame has rotted out on my 2004 Toyota Tacoma 4x2 extended cab, even after Toyota treated/sprayed as part of their recall. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

if they sprayed it under recall then you get a new frame for free, call your dealer to set up the inspection

It's less Tacoma and more mod
This is pretty common on here, I can't remember any people specifically by name. But you should be covered since you got the frame coating and your truck isn't too old.

just went to the dealer last weekend looking at tundras and they took in my 03 for inspection on the spot. The salesman actually mentioned it to me, so it passed and im suppose to bring it in every 6 months so they can check it till 2025 as it was coated in 10. So it looks like ill be getting new frame eventually. btw the dealer i was at had roughly 20 tacomas waiting for new frames with 5 in the shop getting new ones, pretty crazy.

Slight mixup there. You get 15 years from the "in-service" date, not 15 from when it was coated. So your 03 is good until 2018ish depending when it was first sold.

I feel my 04 is in the same boat, just waiting another winter or two for it to be rotted out.

For sure, the shitty part is waiting for them to do it, not enough parts to go around and people are waiting 4-6 months for there truck.

With the popularity of the first gen I would say there is a market for someone to jig up replacement frames. Also I wouldn't trust the dealership with the inspection, get under there yourself with a screwdriver and poke hard at the everywhere on the frame you can reach. The coating was not meant to fix the rust but only cover it up to get past the 15 year warranty and if your dealer is making it sound like you have til 2025 he is likely using his words carefully and when the 15 years actually runs out it will be "too bad so sad that you misunderstood me".

I just got my 01 back from the dealer with a new frame a couple weeks ago , took about 8 weeks to round up all the parts. They seemd to be sandbagging it a bit on the swap over (2 1/2 weeks) but i got it back now so all is well

My frame failed inspection 2 weeks ago. Getting a new frame. Suppose to turn my truck into my dealer end of this month. Then it'll be a couple months before I see it again.

Just found a dime sized hole on the top of my frame on my '02 AC. I had the inspection and undercoating done in 2010. How big a hole qualifies for a new frame??? I heard it needed to be 10mm. If so looks like a new frame is in the future.

better get it in the dealership fast to get your place in line reserved because it takes a while to get the frame in, in some cases I hear it takes 6-8 months

your covered 15 years from manufacture date so you warranty runs out in 2017

Thanks. I have the spare tire recall to get done and I'll have them check it then.
