I was reading about different types of fuel injection and was curious what type is used in the Tacoma. I know that it is multi-point as I have seen one injector per cylinder but I'm not sure if they are all injecting at the same time or are synchronized.

This is not part of any problem/breakage. Just curiosity/edification. I tried googling but didn't find a straight answer.

I believe it's sequential. It's definitely not direct (I think the '16 will have direct.) And the idea the article presents that they all spray at the same time seems like it might date back 10-15 years.. TBI hasn't been around for couple decades.

I understand the concept of direct injection but what are its advantages over sequential? E.g. does it yield better gas mileage?
