Well was at killington this weekend, was nothing to right home about, kind of expected it with the insane weather there friday night. Think I am going to get on the bike before things get ugly on the mountains this year

It's never to early to think about sliding on the snow. :D

Will be working on a storage system for my gear, now that I have a shell on.
Thinking some sort of tube storage for skis and poles that will serve as a muti-functional purpose for the off-season too.
Got a Reese conduit carrier plug set for a 6" ABS/PVC pipe. Going to try that out.

You think bindings and all will fit into 6" pvc pipe? Would think bigger. Also you just going to put a screw top with a lock and then drill holes on the bottom for water to run out?

6" is the biggest (from what I could find) that I can go with a locking mechanism.
The skis going in will have 3 pins or bc/xc. I think it will work with them. Won't be able to get the splitboard in there. But that's okay. That will fit easily in the bed.
Yeah, thought about the water issue too. Was thinking small drain holes.

Gotcha. Didn't know how big you could go with PVC with locking mechanism. I would just put the tube on a slight angle and put holes at the bottom so it can run out. Maybe a hole in the middle also just to make sure.

Was thinking of doing this and trying to mount to the rails but never got around to do it or even look into it.

Roof Rack Ski Carrier Tube (conduit carrier).

Reasoning - to keep as much (wet) stuff out of the bed as possible and free up room for sleeping..

    * The evolution for this project grew out of seeing Crom's idea for his tent pole carrier.

    Items:
    - 6" Reese conduit carrier from Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.com/Reese-7054900-TransRack-Conduit-Carrier/dp/B00B2HP1A4
Comes with the brackets that I needed too.

    - 6" diameter ABS pipe. Got this from my local plumbing supply place.
    http://www.usqualitysupplyinc.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/09/pipe-3.jpg

Cut the pipe to about 5'7". I chose this length due to it being the length of the longest item going in there (skis).

Plasti-dipped the u-bolt brackets, which would give a bit more grip and match the pipe.
Then sprayed a coat of black satin Fusion "rattle can" on the pipe mainly to hide the lettering.

Once dried, the caps would go on each end. Instead of using the provided wood screws, I opted for pop rivets for the added security benefit.
To keep the caps in place on the pipe while being drilled, I used a very strong double-sided sticky tape that was thin enough for the space between the cap and the pipe.

Drilled the holes, popped the rivets and time for the placement on the racks.

    * To keep it better in place, I did added worm clamps to it with a bit of rubber drawer liner wrapped around the Yakima bars. Probably overkill, but piece of mind.

Pipe came in beginning of last week and I chipped away at this mini-project through the week (can you say "3 y.o. boy"? :))
I didn't take any pics of the process, sorry. Once I get going on something I like to keep momentum.
Kinda like floating through those deep sections of powder on a flat section. You know what I'm talkin' about. :D

    Thanks for reading.
