Well I don't want to derail this thread, but to give you an idea of what is going to be available:

    Left of steering wheel
    OEM timer for 15 minutes
    OEM timer for 5 minutes
Colour options of green or amber

    Under HVAC Controls
OEM timer for anything between 0-15 minutes (can be adjusted)
    Colour option amber

I've been working on this for a few months now and have sourced a lot of different switch options through Toyota which is how I found the 5 minute option. I've been searching for an OEM switch under the HVAC controls that is green light rather than amber and think I found one but unfortunately the post office seems to have lost that package so I now need to re-order it and confirm.

I've refined the harness a few times now to the point where no electrical knowledge is needed. Aside from the connection to the mirrors and ground points (which get labeled for simplicity) all of the wiring connections are already built into the wire harness and the harness itself gets done up in a braided wire loom to protect the wiring and give it a professional finish.

What is left for me to do at this point is do an install that is documented with pictures so that I can post up the best wire routing options to use, but basically it comes down to removing a few panels, running the wire harness and putting the new mirrors on. I might be building one for a local guy on the weekend, if so I can post a pic of the custom harness that gets built for this.

I'd go for the OEM left of wheel amber 15 minute switch since everything else is amber.

If you did the legwork on this and had everything in one package to buy I'd buy it off of you. Saves me a ton of time.

Where do you get power from? An add-a-circuit, direct to battery with a fuse in line, or something else?

I'm at the point where I should almost look at an aftermarket fuse block. Between the heated seats, sub/amp, bed lights, and this I'm getting to the point where my direct to battery approach is ridiculous. I need more circuits.

Sounds like you have a fair bit going on lol. It is powered with a add a circuit / fuse. I did end up building a kit for a local last night so took a picture of the wire harness. I can post it on here later tonight when I get home.

image.jpg image.jpg Couple pics of the wire harness built last night, this one is for a switch hookup on the left side of the steering wheel. Anyhow like I said I don't want to derail this thread so if you have any questions it's probably better to send me a PM. As I mentioned before if you guys want to try and tackle this on your own I'd also be glad to help you out if you run into any troubles

Haha thanks, I'm happy with it. The previous ones I had made were a little less user friendly, but as I said this is now to the point where even someone with no electrical knowledge will have no issue with the install.

I'm looking forward to a plug & play kit myself. I'm a electrician but sometimes I'm too lazy to cut and splice into my truck's electrical system. I did that before in my other car but I don't want to do the same into my new truck. I don't mind paying extra just for the convenience.... or I'm just getting old

I'm not sure it's a matter of getting old... Maybe just wiser with the years lol. I remember back when CD players were becoming popular in the car audio market I helped a bunch of friends with installs. That was early enough on that adapters weren't readily available so if you wanted to upgrade you were splicing, soldering & heat shrinking all of your connections.

Looking back I'd have much rather been able to just get an adapter harness and save a whole lot of time and avoid splicing into the factory wiring. Also saw a few nightmare installs others had done that including just twisting the wires together then a little tape at the connection... Sometimes electrical tape one time saw one with household scotch tape :facepalm:lol

LOL I've seen the household clear scotch tape route in my days. But you're right about time. It's something I value a lot. I rather get it done quickly but correctly and enjoy what I just did and move on.

BTW looking forward to your kit

Thanks, I'm looking forward to making it available. Not much left to do, just get some clear instructions done up and order in more supplies. Should be available late summer, I am usually busy in summer with family things so didn't want to launch it early and then have to tell people I couldn't get around to their order because I'm camping or out of town etc.

Definitely looking forward to getting this going and getting people set up for winter!

Sounds great, what's a rough ballpark range you're thinking about when you sell them? PM if you don't want to share info.

Maybe it's time to start a new thread and link the new thread in this one. Nice and clean and easier to follow the progress. And then when you get ready to offer the product you will have a customer base all built up!

That's a good point. I may start up an interest thread or might just wait until it is ready then start a for sale thread. Either way though I don't want to be disrespectful to Benson X by continuing to post off topic in here as I think he has done a great service by writing up this tutorial.

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
No worries, man - post away!

I think it's a great idea if you get some kits put together to sell on here!

Not sure why I missed the alert for your reply. Yeah I think a complete kit is a good idea for those who aren't great with electrical work or would like the convenience of just ordering from one place and having everything delivered and all the electrical work already taken care of.

I probably will start up a new thread as ACE suggested but will link it in here. Not too much new to report other than I have been waiting on a bunch of supplies and it looks like most of it will be in next week. Might sell a few kits to those who have committed to them, prior to a for sale thread going up so that there will be a few people who can vouch for me.

By the way I think you did a great job with your write up and all the research to find the right parts for this.

Yep you are on the list  Should I count you in on an early sale or would you rather wait? My wife had a good point that some people may prefer to purchase before fall so that they can install while the weather is nice out. Also doesn't hurt to have a few early sales who can chime in once a F/S thread goes up.
