This is a bummer. I've thought it would be cool to do a S/C. But they are WAY to costly for me.

My boss put a TRD S/C on his Tundra about a month ago. That thing hauls..... heavy stuff. He uses his truck for business and has to transport heavy trailers over Homestake Pass in Montana somewhat frequently. He didn't want to climb up slow like semis so he did the S/C. That 5.7L in the Tundra plus S/C is pretty sick. ;) He refuses to do exhaust though. Likes it being a "sleeper".

    My rational is this.

I've always thought It would be cool to have one and said to myself if I can ever afford one I'd like to get it. I like the idea of putting a major modification on the motor that would be covered under warranty. I get it's not a sports car, however as much as I'd like to have a sports car....I never will. Because I need a pickup. So I basically I can turn my pickup into something faster more enjoyable to drive.....like a sports car. I honestly don't need it.....no one really does. I don't really care what the haters will say, spend your money the way you want is what I say.

I planned on doing it in the future then I see the release that Toyota put out this week. So I figure it is now or never.

URD doesn't have a SC for 2009 up. Toyota changed the computers and as far as I know know one has been able to get into it yet for the tuning.

    Exactly Jefe!!!!!

Because I'm on the fence on actually getting one, the only con I've read amongst all the pros is the price.
However, every person I've seen that has splurged on it says they don't regret it. I have not seen one person that wishes they didn't do it.

Well if that is true.....I stand corrected. I will more than admit when I'm wrong, no shame in that!! Even still. That is one regret for a whole bunch of no regrets.

Mr lobster, if you could say why you have regrets I'd like to know. It may sway me not to do this.

It was a joke. Just search through my posts and check out some of BlueT's posts he's made against mine. I'm not going to drag it out here because honestly I don't have any problem with the guy. All I'm going to say is that unless Toyota gets working on a fully boxed framed, Diesel engined, Tacoma that can tow +8000 lbs BlueT isn't going to buy one or stop lurking on the 3rd gen forum.

He references the Touareg and Jetta every few posts. Never mentions the price on the Touareg or the repair bills though.

Anyways, back to S/C, I have to say the TRD Tacoma S/C is actually pretty good value for the buck. Just look at what else is out there. You pay about the same to S/C a Chevy Cobalt that still sucks arse or a Mitsubishi Eclipse that will grenade at some point. For a factory kit, it's damn reliable and gives you room to add even more power with mods. I'm sad that this is it's last hurrah.

Looks like Toyota is going to lose is its gear head crowd.
No Chargers no blowers no diesel....no more sales..
    Stupid move..
I bought a Tacoma because there were factory warranted upgrades you to do to the engine.
Looks like Toyota's are being down sized to a mom and pop fuel sipping vehicle company.

I have a technical question regarding the existing SCs. Do they have a recirculating or blowoff type of valve like turbos? Or a way to 'turn off' the charging of the air? I am just wondering because the point of the Atkinson part of the new Atkinson/Otto hybrid engine is lowered compression (i.e. less air to compress equals less force the engine has to overcome during compression stroke, thus improving fuel economy). With a supercharger, the new engine would be forced into Otto cycle all the time unless the SC was able to be shut off during Atkinson cycle. Just wondering if the added complication of linking the control of the SC and engine management system had anything to do with the decision to drop the SC altogether?
