    Getting ready to do my first bar clay cleaning. Please help me clarify the process;

    1. Wash and dry
    2. Lubricate and bar clay
    3. Then what????

    Do I need to wash and dry again to remove the lubricant? My goal is to bar clay before applying a sealant, so I want to be sure of the process.

    Thank you

    Maybe I can be more specific;

    Do I need to wash off the bar clay lubricant before moving on to the next step?

    Thanks

    I don't thing you need to dry after the 1st wash. Also yes you should wash after you clay, then dry, then use polish if you need to, then seal and wax

    Most clay bar lubricants are basically quick detailer so you don't need a follow up wash. Just dry with a microfiber towel (waffle weave for liquids)

    If the vehicle is heavily contaminated (road tar or brake dust / rust blooms) you may need a chemical decon prior to clay such as "Tarminator" or "IronX" just be sure to thoroughly rinse any of this prior to clay

    Recommend Optimum No Rinse for your clay lube. Cheap and works well. ONR is also a great car wash solution and interior cleaner

    You do not need to wash after clay. As mentioned earlier you lubricate with a quick detailer anyhow and you wipe the area clean with a micro fiber as you move around the vehicle

    I'm no expert by any means, but after I washed the truck with the 2 bucket method and a good wash mitt and car soap. I then just rinsed it off and used the same soap and my clay bar. It worked fine, I didn't buy any special detailer for the clay bar.

    As far as your original question, follow the instructions that come with the clay kit. If you run out of their 'lubricant', you can make a weak solution of Dawn and water. It will lube fine.

    But, get a Nanoskin and you'll never use clay again. Even if you use it by hand because you don't have a polisher.
