[How to] Enable Video Bypass on Pioneer NEX Units

Hey guys,

This quick how to video will show you how to disable the video and navigation restrictions (basically the video bypass) on all Pioneer NEX units WITHOUT grounding the parking brake wire. With the AVIC-4000NEX, 5000, 7000, 8000 and even the new 4100NEX, 5100NEX, 7100NEX, and 8100NEX.

You don't need to splice into or ground the parking brake wire in order to playback video or input navigation directions while driving. Instead, just follow these steps.

Hit the home menu button > select AV > tap the OFF button. Now, about a 1/2-inch up from the bottom and 1/2-inch in from the bottom left you're going to press and hold for 10-15 seconds. You'll see it say "SET ON" which enables the bypass and you'll be all set. Now you can play videos on DVD, USB, SD, input navigation directions and more all while driving. No park brake, no wire splicing or anything. It's that simple.

Yea you don't have to mess with the parking brake ground wire at all. Just do the bypass trick from my video. Apparently this enables a few other things that I don't know about... but I'm sure I'll figure it all out soon enough.

Did you update it with the software for Android Auto... and if so, you need the Android Auto app downloaded to your Android device.
Extra tip.. In the Android Auto app press the little Google logo in the top middle 6 times to unlock developer options, then disable the Android Auto warning and boot screens. Makes everything faster, and no buttons to press or terms to accept.

I don't have the parking brake wire hooked up, and just tried it. It works.

There are no instructions anywhere that tell you to get the Android Auto firmware on your phone... they all just say plug and play... Currently, Android Auto only works with the newest version of Android, and a select ferw phones have not pushed the update yet, so if it isn't working, you may just have to wait

 

Mine did that for a bit... I had to let it run through for 10-20 seconds, then mess with the phone and set up the app settings to work right.

 

Ha I figured out your issue

 

There are 2 USB ports on the back on the NEX... Top=Apple, Bottom=Android

Can have both plugged in, but the type of phone will only work in the respective USB port. On top of that, you need to go into the head units settings, and select what type of phone you are using for it to work. if Iphone is working, you either have the wrong USB port, wrong settings on the head unit, or both

 

I don't have OEM USB.

I have android on USB 2. I have an SD card for updating

My unit crashed and locked up on the backup camera, had to exchange it as well. I have the 8100NEX though, so the USB ports may be different

 

It's all in the manual for the 8100, should be in the others as well

 

OP, know any similar tricks for this unit? Pioneer AVH-X3600BHS DVD receiver. Thx.

 

Yes you can only do Android Auto, or CarPlay. Not both. It varies based on USB port on back and settings. Once you set it up you're good. I have an SD card inside for movies and wallpapers, and a USB port down by my axillary in the bottom of the Tacoma dash that I plug USB to my Galaxy S6 and I'm all good.

For Android Auto to work you need to be on Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher (GS4 should be good) and the Android Auto app downloaded. Then it becomes "plug-and-play"

 

I bought a cheap USB/Micro USB cable at Radio Shack, works great, but I'm not using the video from my Android function, so o hdmi setup

 

Gunther, and clue how to disable this damn warning on startup?

 

This doesn't work on AH models. This is for all AVID NEX series.

 

The stock Pioneer warning, no not yet but I'm sure I can figure it out.

As far as Android Auto warning. Yes. Open the Android Auto app and press the small red Google logo in the middle by the mountains about 7-8 times and it enables developer settings. Then go into settings > developer settings > and check "Skip Disclaimer".. You can also save video, take screenshots, and do a few other neat things in there.

 

Already figured out the Android Auto on accident haha, looking to ditch this damn Pioneer warning

 

If you figure out the huge warning at the beginning. Please let me know. haha

I'm going to ask my Pioneer tech too. I have a guy on the inside.

 

I'll let you know what I come up with, may need to find a way to hook the laptop into it and disable it through the actual system, but we shall see

 

Holy hell there has been sone drama over this....

On previous models, someone found a way to hack the unit to disable the screen.

He then began to apply and test the hack on the new NEX systems. He had just posted the insteuctions, and his post randomly disappeared.

Site administration got involved and it turns out, someone at Pioneer had created some accounts and accused the guy of scamming people, causing the administration to remove his posts and ban the guy.

He is now back, and has his hack adapted to the NEX systems aparently, but it's shake and is brick ing some people's units, so I will wait until something better comes along
