Ha, mine just turned 9! Time only seems to go by faster every year.

 

Your not kidding my oldest is about to turn 11 next week, although the little shit already acts like a teenager!

Ash decided he didn't like his new kennel I got him so he could be outside and move around some.

 

Turns out he also doesn't like having to be confined in his crate after he decided to escape from the bigger kennel

 

What did he use to shave the holes?

 

Can't say I blame him. I wouldn't want to be caged up either.

 

Do you have dog(s)?
Are they allowed anywhere they want to go?
I'm all for crate training/kennels. Some "confined" spaces act as a safe haven/barrier from the outside world.

 

i keep my dog in my living room while I am gone, he is so scared of my fishing poles so I just lay one across the couch and he just sleeps in his bed all day

 

Currently? No. But I grew up with dogs. None of them kept in crates. I personally don't think it's right. Different strokes I guess.

 

A properly trained dog doesn't need to be kenneled. Both my dogs are free to be wherever they want when we're gone. They know better than to get up on the furniture. I can barely get them to hop up on the bed even when i'm egging them on. They're both off the leash when on walks too and have a command to get over into the woods/up the snowbanks if a car comes down the road.

I don't think we even own kennels anymore.

 

Sadly, since he got out of the yard recently, ran away from people for ten hours, across the busier streets here, and tore his pads up to the point he couldn't walk right for a week...he has to be kenneled. I do the best I can. Go home at lunch, 15 minutes trip both ways so I have 30 minutes which he runs while I eat a pb&j. I come straight home and we go for a run. I also get up at 5 am so he can get out and ran down before getting kenneled.

I have a quite a few months before my Bloodhound can be trusted to be left alone. She's only 4 months.
As far as walking her off the leash. That will never happen. She gets a scent and she's off. But then again that's when I start running with her.

I saw your story in the dog thread and understood the new kennel and agree with it.

 

haha it's pretty much a deterrent to prevent him from jumping up and sleeping on my couch!

 

My dog was afraid of our cat, but only when someone was around.
