Belstien 5100's with OME 887's for a 3 inch front lift. what are your thoughts pros or cons.
Currently running revtex 3 inch spacer but not a fan, want to go a different direction.

buddy of mine put it on his 2009 dbl cab. sat above 3 inchs and needed UCAs for his alignment. 2 inch aal in the rear on a 3 leaf pack. sat lvl and was too much for him, so he bought a tundra and put some old man steps on it. @xtyfighterx

5100's at zero and 887's should get you right around 3"

Hey I am going to headstrong as well. I currently have strut spacer without upgraded UCA and I hate it. OEM 887's sound like the way to go with the belstiens. its just the UCA witch one to get light racing or Icon. Icon is $$$$$

I have the Bilstein 5100s and 887s- initial measurement was really high around 4-4.5" but once it settled after some off roading and with the weigh of my skids/sliders, it settled down to about 3" Didn't need aftermarket UCAs as alignment numbers were good. Added 1.5" HD AAL to rear to get it leveled. I think it's a good entry level suspension set up. When I save up, going to get some extended travel Icon fronts. I'm sure the 5100s/887s will be better than your spacer or body lift.

Doesn't OME recommend the 887s for trucks with a lot of front end weight, like 200lbs worth of plate bumper, winch, and skids and such? On a stock truck the 887s may have a harsh ride. You might consider a lighter model like 885s, maybe, though I'm not sure how much lift they would offer.

my mistake! I assumed that the springs got stiffer as the number got higher.

887's are the same spring rate as 885's and 884's , just taller than both

886's are a stiffer spring rate for front weight

887's are usually used on 4Runners but work on Tacomas

Oz is spot on with the different springs.

I have the bilstein kit with 887s and I love it, rides better than stock I think. A little bit stiffer but I like it better. Very happy with the ride quality. Not sure how in the hell people were getting 4 inches or more, mine is just under 3 and I had it installed last week, no additional weight.

I stuck with stock UCAs just to see how it would turn out. Toyota said it aligned just fine, but it doesn't feel quite right to me...just a bit a bump steer (I think that's what it's called?) I'm going to ask them if they will play with it a bit more when I go back in a couple days. Planning on LR UCAs before summer is over but Im curious to see if they can make it better.

Bottom line, I would definitely recommend the kit to anyone with a double cab looking for a smooth 3" lift, but if I could do it over I would have gotten the UCAs too.

    Vandal,
Thanks for the post. I am going to get the 887's to go with my 5100's. I hate my strut spacers, I am going to get the 887's and the upgraded LR UCA. Headstrong seem to have some killer deals for all of this stuff. I am still on the fence to get Icon or LR UCA. I know there is a huge difference in money but its all the same shit at the end of the day.

I honestly haven't done much research on UCAs but my truck is a pavement pounder about 90% of the time so I don't think the difference between the two would matter for me. I'm going with the cheapest aftermarket UCAs I can find, which I believe is the LRs from Headstrong. If I stuck to city streets mostly I would probably hold off on the UCAs because it really isn't too noticeable...but I do about 10k miles per year on the freeway (80mph here) so I want a perfectly aligned vehicle for that.

Based on the fact that the 885 coils will provide about 2.5" of lift and considering the specifications of the 887s when compared to the 885s, I have a very hard time believing you would get this much lift from the 887, there's simply very little difference between the two and both have the same spring rate as mentioned already.

Could it be that your initial measurement was taken premature or even wrong. The coils should not settle that much unless you measured right after the install/dropping your truck down. If so its not the coils, but more that the arms (UCAs and LCAs) were pulled in when drooped out and once the tires made contact with the ground they gripped the floor preventing the suspension from settling out (why after dropping your truck down after being lifted up the camber will look off). Its only until you back the truck up a bit and then pull forward will the suspension settle out.
