Just go on ebay and search for a 2007 Tacoma key fob. It will be GQ43VT20T, the same as my 2015.

Simply put, the key lost its immobilizer programming and wouldn't allow the engine to fire up. Luckily, a good Samaritan at the gas station lent me his car and jumper cables to allow me to continue cranking the engine over until the truck was able to read the key and fired the engine up.

Its possible that you may have other issues. Did the flashing light on your dash go out when you inserted your key? If it did then the immobilizer chip was working. Trying to start your truck with the light flashing would have not been successful. Its for times like this that I have a hidden key under my truck.

I wonder the same. Would seem odd that the chip would lose communication then pick it back up after cranking over for some time. Wouldn't hurt to have a spare with you if it happens again then you can at least confirm one way or another if that is the problem. Or if you saw that flashing light on the dash even with the key in then I think that would be a pretty good indication that the chip lost communication with the transponder.

    Guys, help me out.

I have the attached fob and key for my 2012. I believe this key does NOT have an immobilizer/chip, but can't be sure.

If I'm correct, and it does NOT, I believe I need to order one of the OP's keys with NO CHIP that matches the FCC ID on the back of my remote? And all it would need is to be cut and then self-programmed to the vehicle like a new remote would?

To my understanding, every 05 and newer Tacoma has to have the chipped key or else the vehicle will not start. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken.

I think the v6 have immobilizer and 4 cylinder does not. Pretty sure it is that simple but this is just what I have read, not first hand knowledge

My 2008 Prerunner did not have a chipped key. My 2011 DCLB "G" key does. The "G" is stamped near the bottom of the key blade

I've been using my original keys since that incident (2 months ago), and they have been working flawlessly. The all-in-one key, however, still does the same thing, it will not allow the engine to fire up anymore. I chucked that key to the side, and will never rely on it again.

That sucks... OP might set you up with a replacement if you let him know. I've followed this thread and it looks to me like others have not been having that issue. Obviously the fact that it just about left you stranded may leave you hesitant to rely on another one though.
