I think the only way to make the races longer without totally redesigning the cars is fuel stops. But no one really wants that right now.

An interesting alternative might be, they have to start the race with the full 100 kg and refueling as needed. This would help promote efficiency. Then go to 400 km. it would liven up the last portion of races for sure.

Yeah, I don't think they can change much now, I meant in the future.

Refueling: one more way to return F1 to being a blood sport.

The only way I can think of to make it even moderately safe in the pits would be to mandate a minimum time the car must be stopped.

Yep, and that's where she won the most races... um. race. Honestly, I think Bernie would love her to come in even now. I think he said something about her being perfect from a commercial perspective.

The smart money is on Rossi, he's having a good GP2 season so far. Poor guy has been a test driver 4 different years. He keeps getting SOOO close. I think he's due for a shot.

    And *throes

But he was right, she's no spring chicken and has no F1 experience.

First and foremost they need someone with seat time in the real thing. After that their options open up a bit. Danica carries a lot of publicity around with her wherever she goes, in the US at least, and that has to carry some weight in a decision like this. Plus she'd be the first fulltime female F1 pilot which would cause quite a splash elsewhere. Sponsors like that kind of exposure. So who knows.

I saw that they met, but didn't think it was that concrete yet, even if he is a Ferrari test driver and they have some pretty strong ties. You got some insider info OZ? Rossi seems like a natural fit, lots of experience and already has his superlicense (the only American with one). Gene has said he wants an Yank in a seat...

I have always wondered why there have been so few successful American born F1 drivers. Much smaller countries with tiny populations like Finland or Scotland (part of UK I know) seem to produce more than their fair share. I guess driving at high speeds through snow and forests must contribute somehow.

    Hard to pick one reason.

Probably the same reason there are so few Europeans in the NFL. F1 just isn't a popular sport over here anymore. Only one race and no American teams. We are nothing if not a bunch of homers, we need somebody who talks 'Murican to root for. It used to be huge, but over the last 30 years, the sport has become very unapproachable from our perspective and on top of that, with no US teams on the grid and one only a couple of races that are feasible to travel to, we just don't get exposed to it very much. NASCAR (which I hate) gained popularity because people could identify with the drivers and in the East, you can hit probably a dozen races in a 3 month period and only drive a few hours from home. As momentum shifted to stock car racing, instead of F1 trying to get those fans back (which they didn't really want anyway), they just abandoned the market. With no exposure, kids don't grow up dreaming about F1, they dream about NASCAR (gag).

No open wheel feeder series in North America like there is in Europe

Gutierrez is backed by Ferrari and will be one of the Haas driver's for sure , probably with Ferrari picking up the tab the same way they placed Bianchi in the Marussia

Rossi may get the other seat but that would be more for the Americuh , Fuck ya marketing factor as much as for his racing experience

Rossi is a good young driver. But yeah, the A,FY! crowd would be pleased. And let's not kid ourselves, HAAS has made a lot of money off that type of those type of folks. He knows which side his bread is buttered on.

She would probably swear less if she could drive better. I still like the response from the 99 car's pit wall. "Don't worry, she's never been wrong about anything her whole life. I wouldn't worry about it." Priceless.
