I have a 2013 GMC Sierra slt crew cab 2wd and the dealership is willing to trade straight up for a 2015 DC prerunner with TSS package. Is this a good deal?

Kelly blue book both trucks and see what their values are. Then you'll have your answer.

What does the prerunner give you that the Sierra doesn't?

If the dealer is willing to trade straight up why not consider selling private party? You would have a few grand left over which could be used for upgrades or ........ Wait for it.......

Any trade from a GM to a Toyota is a good trade up.

Who you calling a fan boy? :)

A vehicle that doesn't spend more time at the repair shop than with you.

I'd try selling first.Possibly put a few grand in your pocket for upgrades if you really want the Tacoma. The dealer is going to probably make two grand or more of the GMC.

OP, I know private sales can be a pain in the ass but to give you an idea, I recently sold an 07 Tundra. Dealer offered 20k on trade. It took 2 weeks but I sold it private party for 25k. That's a huge difference. Why not list it and see how it goes?

Trade ins are usually a rip off, sell it on your own! Dealer offered me $1200 for my 4runner when I got my taco...sold it for just shy of $5k in about a month. Although, do the math on sales tax savings if that applies. For high cost vehicles in certain states it could save you a couple grand to trade which may make it worth it.

I agree that one must do their homework in buying and trading in for a new vehicle. In AZ I have found that trading in is worth it. Tax on the new vehicle is calculated on purchase price - trade. Most cases I couldn't do a private sell to make up the diff.

Yup. Condition, features, mileage? Maybe a good deal, but you haven't given enough information to determine. Look up the Edmunds.com TMV on both vehicles. It's easy. Obviously the dealer thinks they can make some money off of it, the question is can you make more selling it yourself? And, are you having some problem with the Sierra that makes you eager to get out of it?

Also, you could take the Sierra to CarMax and get their estimate as another data point. They really are no pressure at all, and fast. I ended up selling them my old Yukon instead of trading it in because they offered way more than the new car dealership did as a trade-in. (It was actually a little less than I probably could have gotten myself, but it was having an intermittent brake system warning light that happened to behave that day... I didn't want to mess with the repair or a private sale. I didn't lie to them about it, it's just that they didn't ask me any questions at all. They took the keys and disappeared for 20 minutes, came back with an offer.)

I guess I wasn't very clear the first time. My truck is in great shape with only 18k miles and giving me no problems. I just miss having a tacoma. The msrp on the new tacoma is 32600 and my truck is showing around 32500 on nada and about 31000 on kbb and 30000 on edmunds. I thought about the trade because I could avoid the 2k in taxes for buying it outright. I could sale mine for a little more and that also was a consideration. I just thought a toyota is better than a gmc.

I traded in my Silverado so I could drive a Tacoma again. Best trade I have ever made.
