So folks getting their frame replaced, do you remove your bed cap ? or Dealer handles that for you. I am thinking abotu removing mine so dealer does nto scratch to hell. Than It got me thinking that maybe they are removing bed in one piece somehow ?
Anybody has any pictures of their truck with bed cap, during a frame swap ?

Brought the truck in for inspection. Qualified for replacement. See the pic. Both sides had pretty much the same rust thru in about the same spot, inner side of frame by the cat. Frame ordered, they say they are getting them in within 3 months. So, looks like after the summer which is fine because I use my truck A LOT during the summer. TACO RUST.jpg

Ah that sucks that you have to remove all the wiring too. I guess I have to build some kind of storage for my cap than.

After waiting over 10 months for the frame, and complaining to Toyota Canada, the dealer "re-inspected" my truck today and determined that it was indeed not road worthy thanks to frame root. So they have put me in a rental until they get all the parts in and change out the frame. They said it should be a week to week and a half to get the parts and a week to change the frame. But they also told me I would have a new frame by December last year... There might be a little incentive when I'm driving around in a rental on Toyota's dime.

I am on my 6th month of waiting. I was driving a camry around for 4 1/2 months till they got me a tacoma loaner. I was originally #89 on the list of replacements and now I am down to 20. I will be curious also as to how much they will try to BS me into replacing a ton of stuff. When I first turned in the truck, they did tell me my timing case was leaking and that would be a $1400 job. I called my own guy and he said $900 at most. So, regardless of what Toyota comes back to me with, I will probably bring to my own guy to have a look. I bought the Toytec OME suspension lift and can't wait to have it done. Will post pics when I get it back.

I have asked about 6 times for them to put my 5100's in when they rebuild the truck... the dealer keeps telling me that they will not put aftermarket parts on, whereas Toyota Canada said they might tell them to do it anyway. I was pretty far down the list, but I've made quiet a bit of noise about it lately so I think I'm somwhere near the top of the list now. They expect me to have the truck back in 3 - 4 weeks. I also told them if they have any major issues I will not be paying them to fix stuff they broke, I will put the truck on a trailer and do the work myself.

I bought the after market suspension lift and Thompson Toyota didn't even flinch. The service manager was like "sure, we'll put anything you want on, with no labor fee". It is amazing to me to hear so many members have different responses from each dealer. It's wrong. I'm betting my guy is going to come back with a laundry list of "should do" items. Good luck Stuligan!

I just called about my truck to customer service. No one could give my an answer, big shock, but a case manage is going to call me within 24 hrs. I doubt that will get me very far but it can't hurt. I'd be happy with September but my dealer hasn't seen any parts for two months now. I'm behind six others. The situation is bleak.

Rod, if you don't get anywhere with that, have you thought about at least bringing the truck back to your house?

Mine's been back in my garage for a while now. I feel a lot better having it here, than at the dealer.

I've addressed any issues with leaving my truck at the dealer. Took it out a few weeks back and filled up with shell gas, fuel treatment and stabilizer. It's in a safe place and I check on it weekly driving it around the parking lot. My free rental maximizes my overall value combined with the new goodies with my truck. I also have a 2013 Impreza that's not getting miles put on it as a result. It's only got 23k miles and I can keep those super low with the rental. Bought it in November 2012. I'll keep the board updated with any results worth posting.

True enough, I had Toyota Canada tell me it would be done in 3 - 4 weeks not the dealer. The dealer has been saying "next month" since August last year. Talked to corporate and they've sped the process along.

instead of doing a tacoma meet up, we should have a tacoma loaner meet up.

I got my 2005 Tacoma back on Friday; drives like a new truck, actually rides better than the 2015 RAV 4 rental I had for 3 months.

6 months waiting on frame and harness and 3 weeks driving a Rav4 while they did the work. Job is complete and I am very happy with the results. Patience will pay off if you are getting a new frame. New leafs, & LCA's, and a tune up really help and it drives like new again. A lot of new hardware and some old stuff reclaimed. They put on a new spare tire hanger and gave me new bolts on the hitch receiver so it will be easy to remove and repaint now.IMG_2150.jpg IMG_2174.jpg IMG_2165.jpg IMG_2167.jpg IMG_2173.jpg IMG_2175.jpg IMG_2176.jpg IMG_2163.jpg IMG_2170.jpg

Just dropped off my truck to the dealer for frame inspection. I'm positive it'll get the coating... Predicting it'll be ready to pickup on Saturday.

Really need advice here. I want a new Tacoma, but the frame rust issue is a real big concern. Do you guys really think the new trucks won't have this issue 7-10 years down the road? I went through this with my 02, and I sure don't feel like dropping 32k on a new truck & have this dance again. Thoughts very much appreciated!

The recall notice I got said it was 2005-2008 trucks. Buy a 2010 or newer.
