    help please? i know what the codes are for but dont know which to fix. or how to test them ive got some printouts from autozone but in need of tacoma tech advice :)

    getting there....
    if im not mistaken, p0031 is the code for the upstream heater circuit sensor......bank1 sensor1...........i just had my cel go off, and thats the one i got. replaced the sensor, and its good now. i gotta find out what the ohter code is.

    Looks pretty simple to me. You need an Air Flow Meter/Sensor.

    Is it true that these should be changed every 60-90K miles or so? Or just when they throw a CEL?

    Mine made it about 130K before it needed replaced. We only replace 'em at work when they fail.

    ok, but what if my mileage gets/is crappy. could the sensor be going bad?

    ok but do i need to replace both, or would i be able to just replace the mafs? why is it giving me the code for the o2 sensor and the mafs??

    yep....there he is.




    good idea to replace when needed(by cel), but good idea to replace sooner to save mileage. my cel went off at right under 60k miles....replaced it...good to go.

    replace the o2 sensor first, and clean the maf....may work out better and be cheaper.

    the mafs is 80 bucks the o2 sensor is 180 . but anywho how do you clean it?

    there is maf cleaner by crc

    clean it, and replace the o2 sensor. no real way to clean them. clean the connector on the maf as well.

    Nowhere does it say in the flow chart for either code, that an O2 sensor is involved. Both codes point directly to the air flow meter.

    The P2238 code points to an open circuit in A/F meter.

    Out of curiosity, how many people giving advice to this guy are actually mechanics? As in work in a shop, repairing cars, on a daily basis? Are you guys looking at a Toyota flow chart, like I am?

    Many people still call them an O2 sensor. Not sure why, but it has been like that for years. I have had dealerships tell me they were O2 sensors, regardless, as long as the correct one gets replaced.

    This O2 sensor #1 may also be refered to as an air/fuel ratio sensor since on some vehicles it is.

    ummm im confused? let me see if i got this...... for both codes its the same part the only part i need to replace???? which is the mafs , autozone told me it was two different parts they werent sure if it were both that were bad or just one . Mr. toyota tech please explain
