I was thinking the hi-lift could be strapped either to the top, the bottom, or within this track. But I might be wrong on all three of those assumptions.

This is what happens when I have six IPA's before bed on a Sunday night....

If you don't draw blood, you're doing it wrong!
I understand the design, and I think there is some potential there - but, I also think it would inhibit certain things (like a canopy).

If the bed rails are recessed inside the Cargo Track, I would think it would limit accessibility to things that need to attach to the bed rails (t-slot nuts, canopy attachment points, existing tool mounts, bike mounts etc.).

Perhaps if you left the top open (no rail) then it would be a more versatile/functional design. This would provide mounting points on the bottom and still allow full access to the bed rails on top. :notsure:

Yeah, like an L shape. That would make it less expensive and reduce shipping costs.

I just got some of your bars last night from a fellow TWer, awesome product. Definitely interested in a basket soon!
I was thinking the same thing as above, what about just an L bracket with all the holes towards the bottom of the bracket? Mount behind the factory channels, but leaving the top half open for canopy/topper? I see this as a great place to be able to bungee anything into the bed, more tie down points than the factory d rings...
Edit: and maybe a small cutout in the middle of the bars for the factory cleats to twist clear?

yeah, you're adding a track to a track, whereas this guy is giving you brackets to add to the track. If you can't undercut the $59.00 price, you'll need to make a strong case for why yours is more compelling. interested in seeing a demo!

How so? adding a track to a track that's already there seems redundant to me, plus, it's limited to the length of the newly added track. the aforementioned brackets accomplish the same thing while taking up less space on the track, and it allows you to set them wherever you like. They're also smaller to reduce shipping costs, and could also potentially do a better job of keeping out of the way of, or work with anything else you already have setup on the tracks.

I'm not trying to be a naysayer here, I'm very interested in how this is different and or better.

I think the tools being mounted could go above or below the tracks, allowing the tracks to still be used to secure a shell or as tie down points? This product may ot become reality, but I like that we get a chance to help him brainstorm.

Question 1: If its going to be the full length of the bed how will it be anchored toward the end of the bed (past the current rail) and if it's better anchored how much weight can it support?
Question 2: If made in an L-shape could this not be used for just about any bolt on mounting hardware?

Seems alot more reliable and versatile than the standard bed rails as it affords you the opportunity for about endless mounting options and relatively quick changes. Am I missing anything? I know I can think of tons of stuff I could mount to it....

I've done something like this on my old work taco. The only thing different is I had an extended flat piece on top of "utility track" that sat behind the side rails essentially making "utility track" sit just bellow the side rails.

I think it's dead. There wasn't much interest.
