You need a weigh station to register? Some recycle places have them - I know there is one just down the street from gilroy toyota. Bet you could find some place closer though.

Thanks for the info. The lady at the dmv said pick ups are considered commercial trucks and that I would need it weighed in ordered to have it registered. Did any of you guys have to do this?

It's no big deal. Just take it to any place with a weigh station and say you need it for DMV registration. They'll give you a weight slip for just the truck and you take it with you to the DMV. Just got done doing all of that for my 2015 (bought it in Reno).

I had to do this as well when I bought my Taco from AZ. Any big rig truck station should be able to do it for $15-20 bucks.

I did when I picked up my '98 back in 2000. I didn't with my current '08. Maybe because the '98 was originally from Connecticut?

    Welcome.

I've never had to do that but I've always purchased my trucks in California...

What a pain in the @$$. I just looked up:

    https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/pubs/brochures/howto/htvr9

Basically, you'll need one if your out of state registration doesn't show a weight:

    From the DMV:

Figured I'd post this up for anyone heading to Hollister Hills soon. I went this last weekend and the Ranger told me the Hudner Ranch was open and will be fully open to the public in the next few weeks. Decided to check it out and IMO don't bother. It's just rolling grass hills that you could take a subaru on. The black diamonds consist of a few logs or rocks scattered about and can be done in 2wd. Kind of a bummer as the Upper Ranch is getting played out and I was hoping for a new place to wheel, but I guess not.

didn't post much about it, but ran rubicon last weekend. Weather was supposed to be thunderstorms, on our way up it rained so hard after fresh pond that almost every car pulled over. Got to the trail head and weather was clear. Didn't have rain again until Saturday night for a bit. Lots of heeps on the trail, one with the 3rd member out (good luck with that trail fix), suburban with an axle shaft out (they weren't friendly when we asked to help ) and a couple other broken rigs. 83 made it through fine, one corner got a couple dings but nothing major. Little sluice is a little torn up as well as big sluice. No major hang ups except having a carbuerated truck on hills blows and my starter got a workout... Shoulda taken more pics but was just focused on driving.

Oh you'll be bored within 5 minutes. It's literally soft dirt roads that go up and down the hills.

Make sure you aren't loaded up with gear. Us DCLBs pay a higher rate because we're over a threshold. There are weight groupings with different fees. I think I pay $40 for my bigger commercial truck than the rest of you smaller, lighter commercial trucks.
