OK, this will sound stupid, but: what, EXACTLY, did the SR5 package add to a 1G Taco? I thought it was a basic "common option" package with stuff like power windows & tilt/cruise, until I saw one with crank windows and no cruise control. So...help?

There are a lot of threads about this and unfortunately with the 1st gens it is unclear what exactly came with SR5. Some have power everything some have nothing. Even Toyota brochures have discrepancies on what the SR5 package included from one to another.

If you are looking to buy, just find one with the options you like and ignore badging. Another note, there are a lot of TRD Off-Road fakers out there so keep in mind, no rear differential locker=no TRD (generally speaking)

My 2015 AC sr5 came packaged with a chrome bumper/grille, cruise control, steering wheel controls(for hands free calling/changing things on radio) , power windows, power locks, backup camera, cruise control, along with rear seats and sliding rear window. Oh n the fenders are colored to match the color of my truck. Think the SR package deletes rear seats, gives u black, plastic fenders, bumpers, grills, manual lock/windows and no cruise control.

Didn't some of the non SR5 trucks come with out a tachometer? My buddy had a 96 regular cab V6 4x4 5 speed SR5 until the frame rusted in half. It had crank windows and no power locks, but I'm pretty sure it had tilt steering and cruise control.

Completely unrelated to this thread buy my 15 SR has color matched bumpers, grill, fenders, mirrors with turn signals, it has a back seat, and cruise, and power windows, keyless entry, and tilt/telescoping steering as well. It's also got the black alloy wheels, smoked head lights, and a few other things SR5's don't have.

You're thinking of the base work trucks that are bare bones.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I have the SR5 package on my 99, including SR5 chrome package. Chrome bumpers front/rear, chrome door handles and wheelwell trim. Interior has sport buckets, console, tilt steering, full gauges with tach. Does have manual windows, locks, shifters and hubs. Probably missed something but this gives you an idea.

    2001 SR5, it has sr5 badges and 0 options.

Unless tires count as an option.

Like I said, it is very unclear what SR5 included in a 1st gen.

Unless one has a factory brochure

    The 1998 brochure says:
Chrome bumpers and trim, deluxe stereo cassette, sliding rear window, gray rear privacy glass ??, passenger sun visor and pocket.

Thats it, all trivial stuff. I have a hunch that SR5 is the base model. I don't think I've seen a truck that didn't have the SR5 badge.

According to my 2004 brochure, SR5 includes digital clock, tilt steering, CD player and intermittent wipers.

The brochures vary from year-to-year and from different sales areas. They are hardly definitive.

I was always lead to believe it was about the interior color scheme and equipt but as you said, the equipt packages are all over the place so I guess it means something different for every year

OK...so, the SR5 gets a tach, sliding rear window, and tint on extended cabs. Anyone have an SR5 WITHOUT that?

As noted in earlier posts, the SR5 features offered by Toyota change each year. I just posted examples of what they are for 1998 and 2004. My 1999 SR5 does not have a tach. The 2004 model supposedly does have a tach.

my sr5 has no cruise control, no power anything, non folding mirrors, no sliding back glass, and no tint on the back or small side windows

it is more basic the most "base" model trucks I have seen but I do have chrome bumpers so I think its safe to say sr5 means you get chrome bumpers, beyond that :notsure:

The tilt steering wheel and tachometer were not part of the 'SR5 Package', but were likely separate extra-cost options or part of what Toyota called the 'Convenience Package'.
