    just put it in 4LO and in L, 2 or 3 to control your downhill speed, works for me

    Did you read the post, been there, done that. The auto will only hold you to about 5 mph in 4 low 1st gear. Too fast, or at least faster than I want, for some situations. A manual will keep you down to 1-2 mph in 4 low 1st gear.

    I mean to be fair here, and this includes many of the trails back home in Colorado I've done, I have never needed to go under 5mph for more than 100 feet or so down a hill. Using the brakes over short distances like that to keep speed low won't kill your truck.

    But on topic, op asked about mudding where that rarely applies and momentum is your friend.
