Well its a land Cruiser with a diesel so I've got that going for me.
Yeah but I like the look of the ARB... I'm not sure a home brew is the way for this truck.

I can see what your saying... Especially now knowing it has the Diesel in it. I am in the same pickle as you... I know I want an ARB in the front, but not sure about the back... I know a couple local Fab guys want to get there hands on it.. Just to say they did.

There are some other bumper options out there but in all honesty the ARB really is a great bumper for these trucks. Sure just about every 80 has one but they actually have decent approach angle on an 80 instead of the gigantic front porch they are on Tacomas, and have you seen one on a new 4Runner? It might look ok, but holy crap it's a party barge on the front of the truck.

You've seen the Slee shortbus bumper it sounds like. But that's an option.

Metal Tech also makes a tube bumper for the 80. Not my cup of tea on these trucks but they work well.

AOE makes a killer bumper. I actually almost got one of these for mine. You have to do something with the front marker lights in the lower valence since they get covered up with the bumper.

and if you want one with uber clearance, 4X4 Labs has a new design for their 80 front bumper.

Here's the same 4x4Labs bumper modified a bit for the LED bar. This dude has a monster of an 80 that's worth checking out the build on MUD
    [IMG]

Those are the main "off-the-shelf" bumpers that come to mind for the 80. Otherwise you start looking at custom fab work.

....and you would be dumb. ;) The AHC is very problematic and once you start building your truck it won't support the weight and will constantly drop out of the high setting at the wrong times when you don't expect it. My next door neighbor had a sweet LX470 with the AHC and he tried to run it for a while, even with the bypass harness from SLEE that locks it in the high setting. It would still drop out of the high setting. He tore it all out and replaced it with a full OME kit and it's 100% better. My neighbor moved and sold the truck to my brother in law so I still get lots of time in it. It's a sweet rig, and also has a 4x4 Labs bumper.

I disagree... I think the ARB looks great for the protection it offers... and like Adam said... compared to how they look on the Tacoma's and Runners... it's AMAZING.

I think the ARB is more of and overland look vs rock crawling or whatever look... $.02 and as Phil is EAF (expo as fuck) it's a good fit LOL

Im not a fan of ARB bumpers but on LC they look sick, I'd only get one on that and maybe an FJ

I saw an ARB on a LC80 (on Mud I think) that they cut the hoops at the center support and at the lower horizontal bar... unique and actually still pretty good looking... but IMO I like the protection around the lights

Yeah the ARB bumper is definitely not what I'd call a "rock crawling" bumper. It was never designed to be, but instead more of an overland type bumper with good front end protection from trees etc in the "bush" of Australia and also protection from animal strikes, along with a solid place to mount a winch. It accomplishes those goals very well. For me personally, I've gone back and forth a bunch on keeping my ARB or switching to something else but my ARB works great and here in Utah animal strikes can be a real risk (even though it's only happened to me once) so I keep the ARB for the headlight/grill/radiator protection.
