So visited my dealer today. Stay in contact with the man I bought my last truck from, but it's been 12 years. Not buying anything till 2016 tacoma drops.

I have a 2005 tundra access cab with 41000 miles. I stopped by today to check things out. While talking to my guy I asked if I could get a rough trade estimate. The estimator guy was give of a donkey about giving me info. I understand it will most likely be September before I can get my hands on one, but is it that big of a deal?

The dealer was cool and made a few Statements to the guy. At first he couldn't get his attention. Then he was making faces about giving the estimate and the dealer said, "hey just be patient, this guy has his mind set on a 2016 and I just need a rough estimate."

I understand I am a little early. Maybe even a half year early. But it seemed like everyone was a dick except the guy I was talking to.

Is this typical? It sure wasn't on my 1st or second purchase. Bad timing. Oh by the way. No one else was buying today, the estimator was b'sing with 3 other employees

Nah, you're good. I saw my dealership back in January to claim allocation #1. We continue to email back and forth, because we're waiting for the 2016 to hit the computer. As soon as they can make their initial allocation order, my truck will be on its way.

If you want to avoid getting treated like fresh carrion to the buzzards, skip the rest of the sales staff and you and "your guy" go straight to the inventory manager. I've learned that Toyota doesn't tell the dealerships anything ahead of time; we are often more informed than they are. All of that will change once the packages and options hit the computer. Then this forum will light up like red lights in Amsterdam. Wear protection.

Horsepower and torque numbers probably won't come out until the same time the first production trucks start showing up at lots. Don't believe anything until Toyota puts it in writing.

Good luck, and welcome to the pending 2016 club!

Just re-read the bit out appraisal for trade-in. Take it CarMax, they appraise for free. Have that in your pocket the next time you're at the dealership. We did that for our last trade, and they raised their offer $1500.

He actually quoted me what nada is, but made several comments on the low miles and great shape.

I completely understand being early....blah, blah, blah...but whatever happened to customer service?

Anyway don't plan on trading it in, my father wants it like right now and has cash. I keep telling him it might be Christmas before I am ready. I hope I don't have to wait that long....

Yeah....what is with the attitude and arrogance at Toyota dealers? Is it a corporate thing? Was just at my local dealer leasing a Corolla for my daughter, and even though I finally got them to agree on their advertised price it was a painful experience. While I was there, I, of course, was trying to get a little more info on the 2016 Tacoma, and was even ready to order mine on the spot but was treated like I was the idiot even though I obviously knew more than they did.

Exact same treatment I got a year ago while leasing my Corolla. I actually had to pull out my phone & show them Toyota's advertised deal & then argue the same point 3 different times before I got somewhere. Then, when dealing with the finance guy he pushed & pushed an extended warranty.... Wtf! I had purchased a 2-year lease & this asshole was trying to sell me an extended warranty. People must be really dumb for them to be brazen enough to try & pull that shit on every customer.

I've seen similar actions. A lot of times, dealers just don't want to do anything unless you're actively buying a car.

On the other hand, it goes the other way as well. I was at a dealer, wasn't really interested in the car I was looking at, but the guy asked me to take it for a test drive. They had a quota for that. So I did.

Same exact thing on the wife's Corolla. They were trying to lease it to me for like 150 more monthly than advertised. Then sell the warranty. I walked off and they called back with the offer that was advertised. They don't want money walking out the door.

I actually had to call another Toyota dealer while at the first dealer, and luckily, after being honest and explaining how I was being treated and what they were trying to charge me for an advertised special, the second guy texted me a quote for a vehicle they had in stock. The first guy matched it. I promised to buy my Tacoma from second guy and have bought him the biggest , best bottle of bourbon I could find(1.75L woodford reserve). Hey, bribery works! He saved me $2700 out of pocket.

Dang. When they asked us if we wanted the extended warranty, I pointed out that if I needed that then I wouldn't have been buying a Toyota again. He "reminded me" that we were having to get it quickly because of problems with our last one. I reminded him that the only problem with the last one was that it didn't survive getting rear-ended by an asshole doing 40 mph and hitting a stopped car (no one hurt). He saw he'd lost and gave up.

Oh, they also really hate it when you negotiate lots of options into the financing, and then you pay cash. They remember that shit.

Yep.. ..they tried to sell me the extended warranty on a lease car, plus tire road hazard, plus toyoguard elite (basically the same free oil changes plus a coat of wax), pin striping, $995 acquisition fee (WTF), delivery fee etc etc etc.

Pin striping? That's just one more sticker on top of a nice paint job. I've never understood that... one of the first things I'm doing is removing the dealership sticker

This. All you have to do is look up the KBB and Nada trade in values. This will give you a base to negotiate from and I hate negotiating. I go in with exactly what I want out of the deal and I don't waver from that. It's my price or no price.

It seems the notion of cultivating a long term relationship with a customer is dead. They want to make money on you today, not in 6 months. They don't seem to realize or care that good customer service now can pay off down the road. If they don't have the time of day for you now, don't get them the time of day when you're ready to buy.

I like to fill out the contact me form on a dealer's website and see how fast they get back to me. This helps me gauge their level of customer service.

I talked to a salesman in Burlington Vt (35 miles and a ferry trip away) for almost an hour about the 2016. Just tossing back and forth info we both knew from reading on the internet. He seemed like a Tacoma fan himself and was amazingly helpful. Said I could put a $1000 fully refundable deposit down and as soon as it hits their system I could go in and order exactly what I wanted.
Talked to a salesman in Plattsburgh NY for all of 5 minutes and felt like I was annoying him.
Long story short, the dealer an hour away will get my money.

I'd have to agree with this. IMO the estimate was a waste of time and really means nothing come 6 months down the road. They will just have to do it all over again. So many resources available to get a rough estimate, why waste the dealers time and yours.
