Installed the P3 Tekonsha last night. Mounted it to the (wallet box?) using 2 screws. Figured its the best spot for reach and control. Also the OEM part to replace the box is $26. Didn't want to drill holes in the other dash components as they're pretty expensive. I did use 3040-P Tekonsha wire harness for the plug and play feature. I grounded it to the steering wheel ground which is on the column of the steering. Will be testing it on 18 ft toy hauler 3500 dry. Hopefully it performs well!

Does it still open? I mounted mine in the same spot but used the other mount. Wondering why I didn't use this mount because I like how yours turned out.

My P3 is due to arrive today or tomorrow and that is where I was thinking of installing it in the same location but was wondering if the "latching" of the "wallet box" would hold the weight well enough. It appears so. You don't happen to have a shot of exactly where you found the connector under the dash do you? I'm going to look around some more on here too.

Thanks.... I'll take a look for it. Just saw comments here on TW that some had a hard time finding it.

I just put one in mine this morning. I took the kick panel off to find the wire. It was hiding way up behind that thick mass of wire. I felt it before I could see it.

Great place to mount it WHT.RUS!

The P3 is awesome! I have mine mounted on the other side of the steering wheel. Enjoy!

Yeah, I found the connector. Jeesh, could they have made it any harder to get to or put any less slack... :annoyed:

I hope to get it put in today.

I learned a hard lesson yesterday. careful where you put it. Make sure you have plenty of room to get in and out. I didn't even get a chance to hook up the trailer. Went to the grocery store with the wife and when I jumped out of the truck I plowed my knee right in to the damn thing. Knocked the wallet door off and broke off the manual lever. I was needless to say super happy about it! lol

Hope you don't mind a hijack due to the problem talked about...

I don't tow super often, so I took an unconventional tactic. Even if I did, this would work...

I pulled out the little cubbyhole that is right above the right driver's knee. It just pulls out if you give it a good yank.

I bought some industrial strength Hook and Pile tape (Velcro) and put the Hook part (scratchy side) on the P3 and the Pile (soft side) on the upper portion of the area where the cubby was.

When I am towing I feed the harness through the opening that is behind the removed cubby and connect the P3 and stick the P3 Hook to the dash Pile and it works perfect and is up out of the way and is easy to see and access.

When I am not towing, I pull it off put it back in the pouch that comes with the P3 and store it in the truck. The harness pushes back and the cubby snaps back into place like it never came out.

I also mounted mine in the cubby to the right of the steering column but I used 2 1/4 in carriage bolts up through the bottom and shimmed so the mount sat level. unit is out of sight. out of the way yet easy to reach and adjust.

I finished my P3 install last night. I decided to put it under the "coin tray" on the left side. I spliced the tow package provided pigtail to the pigtail provided with the P3. There isn't a lot of leg clearance, so I have to watch out not to bump it getting in-out of the truck. I don't tow often so I can remove it easy when I don't need it and tuck the cable up under the dash. I used the provided self tapping screws up into the tray, but this leaves a couple of screw tips sticking out in the tray, so I'm going to replace with bolts/nuts.

Hey guys, I also installed the P3 controller a few weeks ago with the cable from Amazon and it works great. I have 21 foot Cruiser RV and i set mine on 6 and it stops it just like you want it.... I installed mine in the middle of the dash, in front of the cup holders so it's out of the way. The cable is almost to short but it will work, here's some pics....

Toyotaman29, I am considering mounting my controller the same way as you. Where did you drill the hole for the wire, and where did you attach the ground wire? I see what you mean that the harness is just long enough.

How hard is it to reach for the emergency brake lever if needed? Looks like a nice spot but not sure if youl be able to reach under it?

aires 3D mats, scan gauge II, rear differential breather relocation, and bakflip G2 bed cover.
I put mine in the wallet holder by drilling the bottom for the wire to come through and take it out when I am not towing.

Are you asking about the location where I had mounted it under the "coin tray" on the left side of the driver? If so, I have no problem getting to the emergency brake pedal with it there. There isn't a lot of room and you do have to be a bit careful not to get over zealous jumping in/out of the truck so as not to knock it with your legs, but I don't tow often and just remove it for every day use. If you plan to have the unit installed often and you have long legs you may want to consider mounting on the other side of the steering column in that cubby hole or in the center console as others have shown here. There are several options, some a bit more difficult than others and with their own pros and cons.
