Yes you have to take the torx off and the whole tube.

Front diff is a bitch.

Could be worse. Least your not doing the actual gears. That's a pita.

Yea I'm so glad I'm not doing the actual gears. I didn't have to take the torx screws out, I was just scared to apply too much pressure but I just had to use some leverage and the center pin thing popped out of the gear. The Tacoma gods were on my side today, if I would have needed that torx socket I would have been up shits creek.

It's all assembled and ready to go back in, I have a feeling it's going to be a nightmare trying to get these cv's to go back into the diff.. Any tips or tricks on that?

 

nah those are easy to go in. Just line em up and they will pop right in

 

Nice, you were right they went in super easy. The diff went in 10x easier than getting it out. Took me an hour to reassemble everything. Now all I need to do is weld a nut to remove my stripped diff drain plug and then fill the new diff up.

My girlfriends dad just gave me a can of this to try out, he swears by it. I'll see if I can find some rusty stuff to spray it on.

 

I did same thing but with spray on deadener/insulation. I gota do the firewall at somepoint too.

 

I shoulda bought two packs and double layered/got more coverage. It's still very noise at 70 MPH but I haven't done the doors yet.

The doors are the noisiest part of the truck. I did my doors first with RAAMmat, and just doing those cut down the noise by half at least. The best part is, nothing in the cab rattles anymore.

 

You shoulda done that before you installed it..

Also for the price acetone/atf 50/50 mix is the only thing I use now.

 

Lol I kinda forgot about it I was so concentrated on getting it all back together.

Nah I know about that mix too, I think I was actually telling him about it when he brought up this oil. I'm not gunna turn down a gift lol, I needed a spray type oil anyways.
