I said just a bit because I know it's probably going to be an issue with snow pack and the trail is completely blocked by a large rock slide at some point. My plan is to hopefully get to the punch bowl then head back into Marble.

YOWZA!!! didn't that just happen a few years back too, Fun area!!! wish i could join you guys

EDIT: wonder what the last part of that article means for the Crystal Mill Trail to the crystal mill area, instead of having to drive up and over Lead King Basin and into the town.

"Another large boulder fell into Forest Service Road No. 314, about two miles from the historic Crystal Mill. It prevents larger vehicle traffic, but smaller 4-wheelers and dirt bikes can still pass."

Good reminders of the inherent dangers of exploring/traveling in the mountains. Watched video just this morning of a slide that had boulders on 170 in Glenwood canyon earlier this week. Lots of rain is good for a dry arid place but creates these potential hazards

sounds like you won't make it too far along the trail...a couple miles past the mill will barely get you into the hard stuff...still a few miles from the punchbowl at least

Not positive but pretty sure you won't make it to the punchbowl. The slide was between there and the Lead King junction so far as we've been able to tell. There's actually a thread on it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/schofield-pass-impassable.372636/ The last article published said that the FS was supposed to start doing at least some repair work on June 2nd. Can't find any info more recent than that, so you might just call the ranger district office. Maybe they did get it cleared up. Said article also mentioned it would be a 'perfect time' to do the repairs since a snow bridge further up would be blocking traffic from the CB side well into summer before it melted out. I remember one from a few years ago at Emerald (I think it was) lake that was still like 30 feet deep in mid July, but I think the one they're referring to is closer to Crystal.

Well, they did take the shot with a wide angle lens pointed uphill and from down low near the ground. I can only imagine to make it look bigger, otherwise they'd have had someone in the shot for scale.

I was trying to figure that out too. From the various descriptions it seems like that paragraph was cut/pasted from another article about the bridge. I know the Mill is before you get to the town, but the slide article says the Lead King loop is completely open. It almost seems like the boulder they're talking about is part of the slide, or perhaps a little before or after it. I guess if @cotrailruns goes he can give us a first-hand status report, with pictures, and maybe a GPS point so we can all figure out exactly where the thing is. :D

I'm thinkin an overnight trip would be a good time. Start redone mid morning, end up on swan in the evening camp, do sob hill next a.m. and cone down gorgia back home 285 or Breck side

If you can't make it to the bridge at least there isn't much room to turn around anywhere on that trail accept the beginning where Lead King connects or at the bridge, or again after you get up and out of the punchbowl.

    The Bridge

looking back on devils punchbowl and bridge

looking up towards the top of scholfield pass and another spot to turn around but i doubt the rock slide will let you get that far

EDIT: from FB on the slide, this image is just after where NYCO and I camped last summer its about .2 miles past the junction of Lead King Basin Loop on the Crystal Side.

Just a little further up the road into the slide, I only know this because i walked a lot of the trail looking for another camp site pull off earlier in the year when i was solo

Long and the short is you won't make it very far out of the town of crystal on Scholfield pass, this is WAY before the bridge in my first picture

here is my attempt at where the slide is just from visual reference and remembering hiking for a camp spot.

Georgia Pass was still closed this time 2 years back. You could wheel up to the top but could not continue to I-70. I would check first if you do go.
