    My question is this :
If a dealer has inspected the springs and determined them "fine" , how are we going to go about getting them replaced ? Mine are negative arched badly and it hits the bumps very easily on the road . Cannot handle more than 2-300lbs before it bottoms out on the axle . They act like it's not an issue despite it's a pickup and has a gross payload rating . I'm not above buying my own springs but don't want any lift and really can't afford it right now . Been through 2 dealers locally , same bs and same results ....

I'm just about ready to scrap this thing and send the video to Toyota .

It doesn't matter if a dealership has said your leaf springs are "good", once the official recall notices are sent they have to replace them.

Had mine done in Nov.2014...cost me 817.00. Toyota said I may see my refund by this time 2017. They have to wait for the new leaf springs to be made,an shipped out before refunds are issued.

My problem is I need a truck , NOW . Not when Toyota gets off their duff and makes new springs . I bought a truck with a payload rating that fit the needs and it doesn't even come close to what it's rated at . My '07 Dakota handled weight just fine and rode ten times better than this overpriced piece of crap . The Taco has a lot better power curve , but that's about where it ends - thought I was getting an upgrade but it didn't turn out to be the case at all . I've considered adding the Firestone bags to at least get it by for now , but wonder if the springs will just break anyway since they are so bad as it sits . Need to pull the shocks off and see if they are any good , feels like at least one is blown on compression side .

To top it off , they want to coat the frame , which I'm totally against . To me , it's as if they are trying to get enough time with the coating to keep the frame from having to be swapped under the recall limits ....

Update on my story with recap. You can scroll a few pages back to see my original post with photos...

Initially brought my Tacoma in to dealership March 27 and was told my leaf springs broke and there was a recall. I later found out via this forum that the photo I took showed the AAL that broke (dealership didn't know that until today). I was told that day it would take a week to a month for them to get the parts. I called weekly and FINALLY, over 2 months later on June 6, they finally got both leaf springs in. I was told when they finally took the old out to replace with the new, they just realized it was the AAL that broke, but was still going to replace the stock leaf springs. I was told since I have after market U-bolts with 1 of them being completely stripped, they would need the stock u-bolts to install the new leaf springs. BUT I was given the option to re-order a new AAL and new U-bolts, which I just did on Toyteclifts, and was told they would install them for me for free, granted I get them shipped there ASAP...They have been paying for my rental care since March 27 and didn't want to keep paying since they got the parts now.

sooooooo if anyone is getting harassed by a local dealer regarding getting new leaf springs, I would highly recommend going to a diff place or ask talking to their manager. Unfortunately mine took over 2 months to get the parts, but my rental car was covered, and they even offered to install aftermarket parts for me if I bought them, which I did. Usually dealerships don't touch that since it's not covered by them. They could've have just forced me to buy new stock U-bolts, have them install those along with the new leaf springs, but then my ride height would be decreased by 1.5-2 inch in the rear.

Anybody else worried about all the other damn recalls as well? I just checked and my 13 Tacoma is mentioned in at least 4 of them from the post above.....wth I thought I was getting the most reliable truck in the market......wtf I cannot get over it. I read about the spare tire but I got the exra lugs with the new truck, but the Brake Control one and the incorrect weight rating labels I am not sure. Man.....

I used to sweat it until I started looking at Ford, Chevy, Dodge/ Jeep recalls. If there's a problem and they fix it for free, I'm good with that. I do agree that they could tighten up the quality control.

I have an '06 with 111k on it and I just checked the VIN from the above link about the recall and it is listed as under recall. I bought the truck from a dealer in April and they told me about the recall and how it had no remedy yet. At that time they weren't selling any preowned Tacos as they wanted to fix them first but then they got the OK to inspect and sell any that did not show signs of cracking or breakage. Mine made the cut and was sold to me. I have been waiting to see what the resolve would be. The dealer told me as soon as the fix came out all I had to do was bring the truck back and it would be fixed on their dime. Haven't seen any updates though...

Where/How are you guys running your VIN to determine if your truck is impacted by this recall?

I'm about to put in a AAL. Do you think that voids anything once they do come out with a remedy? I was thinking worst case, I could take it back off before I took it in for whatever fix they come up with...

Just depends on the dealer.. Years ago when I was trying to get TSB springs I had a 1" block on the rear and I had to take it to a couple of places before I could actually get my new leaf springs.

They got the remedy. Check post #145 on 'Leaf spring recall letter thread' The cure is new springs all around, allegedly improved. After all this, anything less would be a pretty big black eye for Toyota. The holdup is supposed to be the demand on the spring companies for 711000 or so spring kits on top of the demand for their normal manufacturing for new vehicles. Also, those that paid for aftermarket are supposed to get reimbursed.

sure would be nice if Toyota coughed up some numbers.

Like the percentage of Tacomas that they know have had spring failure.

    Is this a 0.1% problem or a 25% problem?

    Who knows??

Recall sites still say "remedy not yet available"

I believe you, but basically what i'm saying is...i'll believe them when i see new springs on my truck. And not until.

    :)
