Just replaced rear leaf springs thinking that would cure clunk in rear end when coming to a stop. No luck. Any ideas?

axle wrap is from bad leafs which he said he replaced so it cant be that.

OP check your u-joints and carrier bearing by unloading them, jack the rear end off the ground so both tires are in the air then play around with the u-joints and carrier bearing looking for excessive play. I have seen u-joints literally ready to fall apart internally yet not seam loose at all when the tires are sitting on the ground but after its unloaded they start flopping around.

also test how much "slop" there is in the rear end, you might have problems internally there.

From what I've read on this forum, our trucks came from the factory with the axle-wrap issue, so all-new parts won't fix it. I get the 'clunk' (more of a sudden release of tension, not a loud clunk) when I take my foot off the brakes at a stoplight (I have an auto). Mine has been doing it for years, and I don't consider it as 'something broken'. My rig handles fantastic, on and off-road.

Here is an old link discussing and old 'problem'.

sort of, the trucks come from the factory with weak whimpy leafs springs that have a short life span and then begin to get weak and after about 10 years old they can deform under load which is what axle wrap is.

aftermarket leaf springs don't do that because they are made stronger then oem leafs. axle wrap is when the leaf spring bends in the opposite direction of its normal curvature and contrary to some comments made on forums I can assure you brand new trucks do not do it straight from the factory as some exaggerated uninformed opinions expressed on public forums try to imply

here is a working link to that thread: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/goodbye-axle-wrap-mod.108316/

its a good thread but the poster is very misguided in thinking these trucks have this issue when new. now after you lift the truck and mod it, maybe add a super charger, the truck is no longer anything near what it was designed to be so naturally the suspension isn't built to handle what you have done to it, so in these cases, yes even a new truck straight from the factory can be described as having this condition but it is in no way being realistic or fair to describe a modified truck as "from the factory". once you start altering the suspension through mods then its not uncommon it may develop axle wrap from the torque on the leafs being overloaded.
