I was watching a special on MSNBC last night called $4 gas,now what?...They had a segment showing how large truck and suv prices are down 10% from last year on kbb. One guy was interviewed for the show and walked up to his Toyota Tacoma D.C. and said he cannot sell it for even what its worth. People want to pay less to compensate for the gas prices. Use your common sense people. If you cannot afford it, don't buy it!...All in all by the end of the program they said gas will still rise even higher before it levels off. NOTE: If we get another Katrina like storm in the gulf this year and it shuts down a certain oil refinery this year, expect a big jump! They said that this particular refinery supplies 1/5 of the usa!

I guess it's hard for me to understand why people are ditching their Tacomas, when my commute is about 4 miles round trip.

I've had my Tacoma for 14 months and I have 7000 miles on it and that's with a few road trips.

At least he has a Tacoma, which is a higher value truck compared to its class and better mpg than most... Those that really didnt need one in the first place will flood the market for now, but in the long run, people who need and use trucks will continue to buy and use them.

He could be like the majority of people drivin around in SUVs that never tow, haul, or go off-road... They lose value even faster since they can easily be replaced with a car (wagon) that has nearly the same interior cargo space, but gets much better mileage.

Sounds like the guy ain't trying hard enough or wants too much for it.

If you're that hard-up for some cash ...you'll find ways of selling it for a decent return.

But yeah...sounds like the guy should've never purchased the truck in the first place. People have no financial sense.

If you don't need a truck or can't afford it, don't buy one.

Selling your truck right now is pointless anyway. Your gonna lose money. Say you have an '07 Double Cab that your selling. You've probably lost atleast $2,000 to $4,000 in value in the last year. Your gonna lose more money on the sale than your going to spend in gas. Plus your losing all the abilities of a truck.

I saw 22 MPG today by being on the freeways in the city.
Seeing 20 the odd time. Mostly 18-20.

If you're interested, I was reading about a guy in Dubai who did the conversions and such to determine that he is paying $1.42 / US gallon over there.

You guys still have it cheap in the US. We've been over $4 / gallon for a year now. I'm paying $4.92 right now and the oil is from here.

Maybe this is the dude that marketed his taco on ebay as a Ford F-150. Hell, it's no wonder he can't sell the shit LOL

Plain and simple, he's asking too much for the current market. If no one wants to buy something, no matter how much you think it's worth, you're asking too much. It's not the buyer's fault that a seller isn't matching price to market priorities, it's the seller's inability to read the market. It works the same for companies as it does for private sellers.

Anyone complaining about sellers being dumb for not buying something at "what it's worth" doesn't understand capitalism. It's worth exactly what someone will pay for it. In this market that's much lower than it was a year ago.

If you've had any experience with the media, (I get interviewed on a regular basis), you'd quickly learn to ignore most of what you see/read. Basically, a producer come up with a story line and its up to the reporter/camerman to make that story. One reason I only do live TV is because I would do a 10 - 15 minute taping and they'd pretty much cut out anything I said which disagreed with what their story was.

So, in this case the producer wanted a story on high gas prices, and maybe those evil fiends who drive pickups/SUVs. The reporter likely did a number of 'walk ups' until they found a guy who said he couldn't sell his Taco for what its worth, and that may only have been a small part of what he said. They might have talked to 6 other guys who said stuff like "who cares - I love my truck, I can afford to pay for the fuel but I am worried about my house value" or something along those lines.

So they edit together someboudy filling up a HUMVEE (POS) and they record the pump rolling over $100, they talk to a couple 'experts' (like me, but this isn't what I'm an expert in so they wouldn't have talked to me) and enough people to find the guy with the Taco.

The they edit the 90 minutes of video into 90 seconds, complete with lead in, etc..

Believe me, whether you are on the left or right or center, you shouldn't believe anything you see on TV, except the very basics. For example, there probably was a quake in China, and gas prices have gone up.

We are all being scammed by gas prices (Government and Gas companies) and it seems there is nothing we can do about it.

The last thing I plan on doing is selling my new truck. I guess I am taking a stand. I have wanted this truck for too long.

Well said. The media is pure quackery. I no longer read the newspaper, only the internet headlines. The local TV media is the worst. They must think all their audience has an IQ of less than 75. ‘Look both ways before you cross the street’ etc. What a f!@#ing joke!
