blacking out the badges, HELP

I am in town getting the stuff to do the bhlm and to black out my badges, what kind of double sided tape do I need? I can't do a good search on this phone, sorry I know its probably been covered a million times, thanks in advance

 

Dont worry about it. Look for the double sided 3M interior exterior mounting tape

Also, they didn't have any adhesion promoter, do I need it? I got the bonging to plastic pant.

 

The super strong wasn't ideal but it was all i could find. I also could not find any adhesion promoter so I went on and did it without it. Its a little soon to tell if it mattered or not, but so far so good (almost a year)

 

I'm just going to try it without, 3 places didn't have it and they had no clue what it was, screw it, thanks a lot

 

Same story here. I checked lowes and Kmart since they are adjacent. Then home depot and walmart. No one had even heard of it

 

I got all the paint to do sliders, BHLM, and the emblems, but the weather is turning south, so I think I am gonna have to wait a week to do this. Did you rough up the emblems at all before you painted?

 

I found adhesion promoter at Pep Boys. Try an auto parts store!

 

I used 3m decal and emblem adhesive, you can find it at any auto parts store.

 

I hit them with some fine sandpaper, not sure what grit. I spent about 5 mins on each then whiped them down with rubbing alcohol. Then put about 5 coats on them.

I did this during the down time on my WhiteHLM

 

Did you use silicone to do the WHLM? What did you set your lights on in the oven?

 

I think I am just gonna rough them up with sand paper, I might try to find some adhesion promoter tomorrow though, thanks

I got the same tape dgerm was talking about, what is the emblem adhesive?

 

I actually tried out the 3m Emblem adhesive first (if we are talking about the tubed glue) and that shit sucked. It got all over everything, didnt set well and ate threw threw the krylon fusion.

I set my oven at 250 i believe, for 8 minutes. It didnt do shit so i put it in for another 15 and they came right apart. Mine did not seal up well so when i redid it i at 250 for about 20 minutes, it still did not come apart but another few minutes softened it up.

I put a bead of clear silicone window sealant all along the headlight, put it back in the oven then pushed it all together and it worked flawlessly

 

Ok, so I have never taken apart a headlight, I'm sure I will figure it out when I go to do it, when you put the headlight in the oven is the bulb stilll in it? Then when you put it back in the oven you put the silicone on, put it together lightly and put it in, then when you pull it out you smash it together tight? Not sure if what I wrote makes sense, but it did to me lol.

 

Haha I understand. No you remove all of the plastic/rubber grommets from the back of the headlight. Then you remove the main bulb, as well as the 3 screws holding back of the headlight to the front.

After you bake them and open them up, you will have two screws in there holding the part you want to paint to the headlight. Remove those to get that piece loose. For these I sanded all the chrome I could off and cleaned with alcohol.

I put the silicone on it only the second time around, and only the passengers side since it was the only one fogging. I put it on, left them separate, baked them, them smashed it together when I took them out.

I had no luck at parts stores or the Big Box stores. A buddy with a body shop got it right away. About $7 per roll.
