Line-X for different parts of my Truck??

I know some have Line-X'd their stock plastic fenders and bumpers but....

1. I just ordered the rear All-Pro Bumper from the group buy and I was thinking of getting it Line-X'd. I was thinking about just rattle can it black but would rather get something that will look better and last longer.

Or should I just use Herculiner on it? Never used the stuff so not too sure how it works or will look all said and done.

2. My sliders are welded onto my frame, I rattle canned those black but they have since started to rust. Would Line-X be able to spray those since they are mounted or should I use Herculiner on those?

3. One last thing I was thinking of doing. I want to remove the stock plastic fenders. The only thing is since my truck is silver, those little holes that hold the plastic fender would stick out like a sore thumb. I was thinking about maybe have line-X sprayed to the stock metal fenders where the plastic fenders were. It would in turn make my truck look like the All-Terrain edition and would maybe strengthen the stock fenders a little. I could even trim the fenders a little to allow more tire clearance when stuffed. With them now being black, the fender mounting holes and trimmed fender would not be all that noticeable.

Or I could use Herculiner on those too after I become familiar with the stuff.

**What do all think, should I attempt all this, which material would be the best and etc? How does Herculiner and Line-X stand up to sun? Would they begin to fade after a certain time?? Thanks for your help.

 

I've used Herculiner on many things....my 96 tacoma bed, rock sliders, my jeep interiors, etc. I had the stuff on for about 5 years. Areas that were exposed to the sun/weather, it can fade over time. And - I did have areas that wore thin also. Although, Heruliner is cheap enough and easy enough to repaint it without any prep work. I had no complaints.

You can keep the Herculiner looking black by putting 'tire shine' on it - but that makes everything slippery as shit....so if you're stepping on these ares, don't use tire shine.

On the rocksliders - I put it on the tops & side but not the bottom. The rocks will only rip it off in no time at all.

Have you thought about having the bumper & sliders powder coated? That might be more durable in terms protection from rust (instead of Herculiner).

I can't speak for the professionally applied Line-X. I know its thicker...but it also costs a lot more.

I wouldn't recommend putting any Herculiner or liner on the fenders. Cuz - you might regret it afterwards and it'll be one hell of a mess trying to get it off - but that's me.

I know what I would go with

 

The problem with rhino liner is its really rubbery and kinda soft and not all that hard to tear into, and once you get one tear it all starts coming off from there. It also has a cottage cheese texture.

Its good for a bed to keep stuff from sliding around though.

Line-x is harder and stronger and smoother.

 

As a former Rhino liner dealer, I'm a little biased, but I can guarantee you it is MUCH better of a product and will look much better than Herculiner. They will also stand behind their product.

 

Might I ask why you're going to remove the stock fender flares? IMO they do serve a function, and aren't just there for looks. If you go with a wider tire at all you'll be flinging rocks and dirt and shit everywhere.

My front tires when compressed fully rub the rear portion of the front fenders. Removing the Plastic fender would give me about another inch of clearance. I'm already running wider tires so I've gotten used to dirt flinging. Another 1/2" less fender width not gonna bug me too much. Those square little holes that hold the retaining clips very noticeable though on my silver truck. That's the only thing that bugs me.

I've had powder coated bumpers in the past and the powdercoat would start peeling away after a few hits and scrapes off road. Maybe it was a cheap powdercoat that those bumpers had but I just don't want to risk it again. I'll research a bit more on herculiner and see what I'm gonna do. That sounds like it would be better since I can always touch it up from what I read.

 

If you're going to put herculiner on the fenders, might as well patch the holes before you paint it. It would look even better and not leave open areas for the liner to start peeling off...
