Wiring External Button to Unlock Doors

So here's what I'm thinking. Rather that hiding a non-programmed key on the exterior of the truck in case of accidentally locking the keys inside, I was thinking of wiring an extremely well hidden button that would unlock the door(s). My thought process is that a thief isn't going to be looking for a button, and I'd only use it as a last ditch effort so no one would happen to see it and break into my truck at a later date. I feel like it'd be as simple as running a fused line from battery to hidden switch, and other side to an unknown wire. Any input you have would be appreciated. I know a lot of you might disagree with this method, so I'd prefer only constructive criticism and actual electrical help. Thank you.

If your wanted to get REALLY crazy you could try to install a keypad lock like on the Fords, sorry, I cant help with the wiring.

 

That thought crossed my mind, but those don't look as minimal as I'd like and are way more expensive than some wire and connectors. Appreciate the input though!

 

Get a monetary switch/button.

Run a fused +12 to one terminal on the button/switch.

Run the other terminal from the switch/button to the unlock pulse wire.

The wires should be able to be found at the fuse block behind the driver side dash panel. I don't know/have the schematics for anything other than a 2010.

 

Ever seen a vehicle with shaved door handles? They use something called door poppers. Google that. You'll find a bunch of kits you don't really need for what you are wanting, but I bet a bit of poking around will find replacement parts or wiring.

You will want to look for a blue/black wire (lock) and a blue/red wire (unlock) behind the driver side kick panel. I found this while digging around. So all I'd have to do is tap into the blue/red wire?

 

I think the keypad inside the gas door or in the bed is a good idea. Had one hidden on my Titan and it saved me once at the beach.

I can't speak as to the wiring, but on the ambulances we have a hidden switch behind the grille, the switch is a momentary 'on' switch covered in rubber, press it once to unlock the doors. Pressing it again does nothing. It's a useful idea, for sure, and quite doable if you put the legwork into figuring out the wiring.

The ambulance manufacturer is Horton, maybe some time on their site looking at schematics will give you an idea of what you are looking at. Obviously the final wiring would be different between the Ford chassis and the Toyota but the basic idea would be the same.

 

I didn't even think of hiding the key pad. I'm definitely going to look into that.

Thanks for the info! That's actually where I got the idea. My girlfriend mentioned it one time as she's a volunteer EMT, and I thought that was a brilliant idea.

 

I would use a switch one side would go to ground and the other to the disarm wire located in the drivers kick panel door harness. The disarm wire uses a negative trigger one pulse opens the drivers door a second pulse unlocks all doors.

 

Correct. It's been years since I installed my aftermarket system but I use the lock/unlock wires (not the factory arm/disarm).

 

Those wires for the pop and lock blue/blk and blue/red are a five wire set up. Much easier to use a negative trigger.

BTW, maybe try a temporary setup to test if the momentary to ground will unlock the doors? Should just be able to jumper the correct pin to ground.
