"The Tacoma’s braking power is lacking compared to the other two trucks, and that’s no surprise as it is the truck in the group still equipped with drum brakes on the rear axle – a fact that was not lost on us while towing down-hill."

    Quite interesting read there.

That quote is weird. They didn't even use the frontier in the towing "test" because their Nissan demo didn't have the tow package. I mean, probably the nissan would have also felt fine towing down hill, if they had actually done that.

It would be nice if they had posted their results as a set of measurable numbers like in this review from 2012 http://special-reports.pickuptrucks.com/2012/01/2012-midsize-shootout-track-day.html instead of their reviewers feelings. Oddly enough, in that review the tacoma smoked the frontier in braking.

Extremely disappointed there is NO seat HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT manual or power. At this price point the extra $25 to $50 cost to include this BELOW BASIC feature is an insult to the purchasers. $35,000.00 no seat adjustment??? The competition has the feature. I think even the cheapest Scion has height adjust on its manual seat. Come on Sweers defend this CHEAP OUT on a $35,000.00 vehicle. I want to buy this truck, but I don't want to have to mod the seat rails because the customer of this product is so disrespected due to lack of market choices. There are a lot of trucks with adjustable seats for $35,000.00. One of them is called a Toyota Tundra... those customers are treated with some respect because there are plenty of market competitors. Why are height adjustable seats approved for base Tundras, but not the all NEW Tacoma LIMITED Tacoma???

Looking forward to your answer Sweers.

I guess it was a little much for you to follow. Let me explain it further for you. That shorter the cabin height, the better the aerodynamics will be, however, it comes at a cost - and that is that the seat must be lower to the floor. I would rather have a taller seat height even if it means a taller cabin.

Hmmm...if fully boxed frames are not stronger then why did Toyota box the portion of the frame under the engine?

Please....do just a little research and you might learn a lot.

"Disc brakes are generally considered superior to drum brakes for several reasons. First, they dissipate heat better (brakes work by converting motion energy to heat energy). Under severe usage, such as repeated hard stops or riding the brakes down a long incline, disc brakes take longer to lose effectiveness (a condition known as brake fade). Disc brakes also perform better in wet weather, because centrifugal force tends to fling water off the brake disc and keep it dry, whereas drum brakes will collect some water on the inside surface where the brake shoes contact the drums."

    and also:

"(Drum brakes are less expensive to make than disc brakes, largely because they can also double as a parking brake, whereas disc brakes require a separate parking brake mechanism.)"

Mike Sweers does however say that the 2016 is 3 1/2" longer in the front and 1/2" in the rear.

only reason it's longer in the very front, is because of new crash testing regulations

This redesign is no different than what Ford has done with the Super Duty that was fully resigned in 1998. They are still using basic cab but have modified about everything else since then.

That video's intended audience is a retard with no engineering background. Rigidity does not equate to stronger and in many applications, leads to a lower catastrophic failure threshold. This is why the Ford Raptor doesn't have a boxed frame - instead of absorbing energy by flexing within elastic engineering tolerances, the rigidity led to welds breaking and the engine falling out. A semi tractor trailer is designed to deflect SIGNIFICANTLY under load, which is why it doesn't use a boxed style frame. Shit, even F550s use c channel.

Exactly! Also I would also rather have a C Channel frame with 8 cross members then a fully boxed frame with 5 cross members.

Yes - the Raptor frame is fully boxed - please do the most basic of research.

Every other mid-size truck (including the Toyota Hilux) has a fully boxed frame.

If you want a partially boxed frame - the Tacoma is perfect for you.

By the way... why does Toyota box the frame under the engine of the Tacoma if it is not stronger or better?

And here is the link on the Raptor fully boxed frame:

    http://m.ford.com/content/MobileFor.../details/equipment.html/raptor/_stdpart_34210

"The frame is fully boxed from front to rear with extensive use of high-strength steel. All crossmembers are fully boxed for lateral rigidity and to allow for frame flex. When the frame is more rigid, the suspension can perform better."

lol... you stole my line :)

That's what I am trying to do...figure out why Toyota boxes the Hilux and 4Runner and why all other mid-size trucks are boxed, but yet the Tacoma isn't.

If true that would be a serious compromise for me. I thought I saw a rotary seat adjustment knob in the pics of the prototype truck. This would be a big oversight on Toyota's part if there is no seat height adjustment.

The Raptor frame was redesigned this year and now it does use a boxed frame. That is correct. What I said is still true. They achieved desired flexibility by using a different alloy. Because there was a perception that raptors had weak frames because of the partially boxed frame, this was largely a marketing move.

I don't want or not want a boxed frame. I want certain material characteristics. I don't care if they design the frame like a dreamcatcher made out of Cherokee armpit hair and tree sap if it functions well for my desired uses.

Why does toyota box the frame under the engine? Well, clearly they desire rigidity around the engine and don't between the wheels. It's not rocket science. It's material science.

You don't seem to want to talk about the examples I gave. Semi truck trailers and big commercial fords don't use boxed frames. Is this because they are less capable or because marketing bigwigs realize most men are so desperate for masculinity in a PC world that they'll throw money at anything that sounds tuff. Think about it, breh.
