Thank you Capt. Obvious if you read what I said which is it's a "concept" you would've known that and Hyundai IS going to build it thanks to the positive feedback it got from the show. I guess you would've saw that if you clicked my on my second link I posted that above

 

I still see the Ram 700 here on a Fiat chassis built in the USA before the Hyundai Santa Cruz is available. Both will have good sales numbers because, let's face it, half of the Tacoma sales in California are sales to surf bums and weekend warriors who really don't need a truck, they need a car that has a bed. I'd expect a few sold around here to the same sort of people that wear cargo pants everyday to feel manly yet hold a desk job all day.

 

There just aren't that many Colorados out there yet...and most people don't wan't to take a brand new truck out on the trail.

Betcha many are waiting for the Diesel to hit floor. (I know, I am...want to drive it and the new Tacoma before I make a decision)

Icon is now making suspension for the GM....so give it time before you see them on the trails. heck, I am just now seeing more & more on the street.

Stole this from William Mulkley in another thread. Wiki is giving HP and torque #'s for the new motor. Obviously not confirmed but I would happy if these were the specs.

The 7GR is a 3.5 L (3456 cc) version. 286 horsepower and 279 lb. torque. Using the new D4-S with Atkinson cycle technology.

Wiki had the 2FR-FSX listed for the 2016 Tacoma just a few days ago. Its a toss up at this point.

 

I highly doubt I'll buy one...still want to drive it. I am no stranger to diesel...all of our earth moving equipment were diesels.

 

I wouldn't get a Diesel even if they offered one.

 

I can't believe we're still talking about a diesel months after we found out we're not getting a diesel in a forum section devoted to a truck not offered with a diesel in a thread devoted to an engine that is not a diesel.

Yeah, I dunno if want one for my daily vehicle. Modern gassers last a damn long while now, power isn't too bad (for what I need)...maintenance is about nil other than changing the oil during the long haul. I see cost of ownership a lot less in a gasser than a diesel.

 

I dont know were that (a lot of maintenance required for diesel) comes from.
There is not that much to do on them except oil and filter)
And even that its probably at 15 000 intervals, and if you put Mobil Delvac 1 oil is like every 60 000 miles or something crazy like that, so you just need filter done every 15 000 miles and if you go to double filter setup like 18 wheelers than that gets pushed too.
There are no spark plugs to maintain. So not sure what anybody is going to do there.

 

me thinks cuz the Collie is getting the oil burner...is why. It certainly has peaked my interest...at least to go test drive one...I like driving the VW TDi...would never own another VW tho'. I still have nightmares from our Jetta...

Be hard for me to stray from Toyota (as I said before)...I still like to look at what else is out there though...I always come full circle...and Toyota wins in the end.

So the '16 Taco isn't real easy on the eyes...I am sure it will be a great little truck...like it always has been.

 

We all know the pros and cons of diesels because every derailed thread gets into a diesel vs gas argument. I do hope GM sells a lot of 2.8 oil burners, I do. Maybe others will follow.

 

Routine maintenance is cake...it is when those spendy injectors/fuel pump go tits up is what I am thinking about. Spark plugs are waaay cheaper to change out. (I run my Toyotas up to 200-300K miles before I off them)

No clue how long the DEF system will last....ya think CATS are expensive to replace...

 

Yes, back to new motor. If 286 hp 279 ft lb torque were indeed the correct specs would you all be happy?

 

That sounds real good to me...if it gets 24 mpg HWY (W/4WD) be even better.

 

I think those are obtainable specs for MPG. I imagine the Atkinson cycle is implemented during cruising speed to boost highway mpg. Otto for getting on the ramp etc.

 

By that logic the Tacoma will still be fine. If you won't see either truck on the trail for 3-5 years I doubt many people will be jumping ship to a Colorado. Also the Colorado has literally almost no one making armour for it right now. Until that happens I don't see wide adoption. In the area's I was in this weekend good sliders are a must have and only so many people can make there own well.

The bunch of us did have a Diesel talk. TBH most of them thought my S/C was overkill for power, so I don't see Diesel demand for that being all that high.
