300hp would be nice from something that will stand up for the long haul. But I just dont see it with the 3.5 girl motor ..

Girl motor comments are great . I think everyone has had a good laugh about that.

I keep checking out leaks of the Russian and Chinese Prado but it looks like both are now coming with the 1GR Dual VVT? Anyone have a current source that sows the 7GR in those trucks?

Jeff Langes thread is suggesting it isn't a 7GR at all. The Tacoma doesn't get 1st runs of motors, they get the sloppy seconds. It's looking more and more like it'll be a lower rpm tuned 3.5L similar to that of a Sienna or Highlander.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
The 2GR-FSE (Otto cycle with D4S) makes 311+HP for the Lexus car and the 2GR-FXE, (Atkinson cycle with the D4S) makes 292. The FXE loses power as its a full time Atkinson cycle engine which is known for higher efficiency but less total power compared to the Otto cycle engine.

The 2GR-FKS is similar to the 2GR-FXE but the "Atkinson cycle" is simulated and controllable through the intake valve timing. This tells me that if Toyota wanted to enter a Peak HP war with GM, they could probably get peak power around 310+ during Otto cycle operation while maintaining the efficiency of the Atkinson cycle engine when power isn't needed. The 2GR-FSE was on the Wards Top 10 Best Engine list 4 years in a row. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2GR-FKS makes that list as well.

Judging by how Toyota used longer intake runners for the 5VZ and 1GR to maximize torque at the detriment of max HP, I get the feeling Toyota understands how to make a truck engine. I don't think Toyota will beat or even match GM's HP output, but they will win where it matters, on the low end spectrum.

Who ever picks a truck because it has a higher max HP output isn't getting the whole picture.

Probably not...I like the looks of 'em...specs seem "ok"...can't trust them on the reliability end. Really don't want to give up my manual trans, I highly doubt one will be available with the diesel

Will most likely end up with another Tacoma. Toyota has treated me well over the years, be dumb to stray from the brand.

This is how I feel. I know GM has come a long way since the 1990's but it's hard to lose that fear that poor reliability brings. I could care less if the truck has best in class anything. The only best in class I care about is QDR.

It is the first year for them too, will have to wait a bit for them to work the bugs out of them. I want to see them after people have put 100K+ miles on them.

With the Tacoma, it is proven...yeah there are some minor bugs..but easy fixes for the most part. May not be perfect spec wise...but it is damn close for 95% of the stuff I do at the end of the day.

Have they? GM has supposedly come a long way multiple times since the 90s alone, yet they themselves have apologized at least 2 times in the 2000s for having poorly designed vehicles & subpar quality.

    http://michellemalkin.com/2008/12/08/gm-recycles-lame-apology-strategy-from-2003/

Bet anyone the vast majority of the biggest fanboys on the GM message boards either have no idea or have chosen to permanently forget their own beloved company has admitted to being crap more than once in the last 12 years. Blind brand loyalty - just one of many interesting modern human conditions.

Stole this from William Mulkley in another thread. Wiki is giving HP and torque #'s for the new motor. Obviously not confirmed but I would happy if these were the specs.
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_GR_engine

The 7GR is a 3.5 L (3456 cc) version. 216 horsepower and 229 lb. torque. Using the new D4-S with Atkinson cycle technology.

    Applications (calendar years):

    • 2016 Toyota Tacoma

I agree. I would be content with those numbers though if they were true though. Guess we will keep waiting another few months. lol

I suspect this will be very close to the number. Which will then make my decision all that much easier.

man this thread is confusing as fuck. Did all the quotes get changed by a mod to troll me (and anyone else paying attention)? The previous several posts quote 216HP and 229lb.ft. torque. The wiki used to read 286 hp 279 tq. As if those numbers were pulled out of ones ass hard enough, now the wikipedia page reads 216/229.

Did someone go edit the wiki then edit all the posts here? If so, that's hilarious.

The point is that anyone can post and edit on Wikipedia . Don't believe everything you read there.

I understand that anyone can change the wiki. The confusion I'm experiencing is if tacojohn and tacomanonymous are being sarcastic when they reference those numbers, which are abysmal, and express what I interpret as tacit approval. I could just be stupid but I want to believe that someone edited the wiki, then went and edited the posts in this thread to reflect the changes in the wiki.

The very thought that anyone would go through that much effort is really funny to me.
