I dont remember reading about this anywhere, but in 4 low, it constantly beeps. Is there a way to turn that off? It got real annoying when i was pulling out an old stump yesterday.

What is the purpose of this anyway? You have to push in on the selector to even get to 4 low. Maybe 5 or 10 beeps to let you know your in 4 low, but to keep beeping and beeping....thats crazy!!!!!

Ok...I feel better...Ive been waiting all day to get that off my chest...:D

Oh, just a little fact about my taco. After i pulled the stump out, i had to fill the hole it was in and the connecting ditch with gravel. On my 08 DC short bed, I had exactly 1.65 ton of gravel in the bed. Could barely tell it was on there. I was SHOCKED. I was expecting the truck to be all over the road, but it handled VERY nicely. Never bottomed out either. I was expecting to have to have the rear leaf TSB done on this truck, but i had no problem at all with my springs. I guess they did fix the problem on the newer 08's.

1.65 ton?? ARE you sure it wasn't something else

And no sag, you must have the super taco because when I put 850lbs in the back of my 08 before the TSB it was on the stops. Not to say it didn't ride ok but that is over 3,000lbs that your saying so no way.....and if your springs weren't bad before they probably are now.

I never said "NO sag"...I was talking about driving wise. I thought it would be sitting straight up in the air and it wasnt nearly as bad as i thought it was. I figured i would be all over the road, and i wasnt. It wasnt bad at all. I was impressed.

I had the bed level to about 1 inch below the rails on the sides and a graveyard hump in the middle.

You guys had me second guessing myself so i went and got out the reciept from the gravel yard. I guess im dyslexic today...

    Actual load....1.56 ton 3109 lbs.

You guys dont believe me, i have to get another load this week sometime....Might not be as much as the first, but i guarantee it'll be over 2500lbs. I'll take some pics and post.

    Then let the appologies begin...

    EDIT:

The beeping is because the 4 low wasnt engaged? It pulled the stump out just fine. Maybe it was stuck in 4 hi and i didnt realize it? I probably should have been able to realize i wasnt in low range...I really need to start paying more attention to things...

Are you sure you were in 4lo?

You can tell when you're in 4lo or not - the gearing is different and the truck doesn't move nearly as fast in 4lo as 4hi.

If you keep getting that beeping sound - stop the vehicle, put it in neutral or park and sit for a few seconds until the beeping stops and the truck engages into 4lo.

    That's my guess....

How many total leaf springs do you have-including the overload spring?

the beeping means you are not in 4lo. if it beeped the whole time that means you were in 4hi the whole time.

as far as 1.65 tons of gravel in the bed.... i dont believe that. you can TOW that much in a trailer but you cant HAUL that much in your bed. thats double of what the beds are rated for. even if you were driving the full size you would at least notice that much weight

No it doesn't. The load capacity of the BED is 1300lbs or so. The bumper tow capacity is 3500lbs. As in, put a ball on the bumper instead of the hitch under the bumper.

And as others mentioned, beeping in 4lo means it's not engaged.

This is a half ton truck, not 1.5 ton or 3/4 ton or 2 ton.

I had the switch in 4 lo...But like i said...I wasnt really doing all that much i just wanted to see what all you had to do to go from hi to lo. I've only had the truck a week...still trying to get used to everything...

I didnt pay much attention to the gearing i wasnt driving very far...I just noticed that beeping and it drove me crazy. I'll check it again tonight when i get home. I'll check out the leaf springs as well.

It may be a HALF ton truck, but this HALF ton truck will haul a ton and a HALF....I dont understand why everybody is in disbelief...Do you all not use your trucks as trucks? Has nobody ever tested the limits of their trucks? Is it so hard to believe that this truck will haul more than Toyota recommends?

Wasnt there a picture on here a few months ago showing a taco pulling another taco on a trailer...how much does a truck weigh? 4000lbs? Plus what...another 300 - 500lbs for a trailer??? That is way over the 3500lb towing max and nobody questioned that.

Not trying to be a dick or anything, just wondering why everybody is giving me a hard time....

Hey man I believe you....you probably just took some major years out of the rear wheel bearings, tranny, rearend, motor, springs etc. I would not do it again..but its your truck. Those pics will go along way, but don't wreck your truck. :D

Tacoma can pull 6,500lbs with the factory tow package. I would not do any more than that.

Remember, that 6,500 includes your trailer, its contents, your gear, and your passengers.

If you put the truck in 4lo and it beeps, that means 4lo is not engaged. you have to follow the procedure in the owners manual to get it in 4lo

as for the weight, are you saying the weight was in the bed or being pulled in a trailer of some kind? if you are TOWING it behind the truck in a trailer, you can tow up to 6500 lbs and what you are saying woudl be completely believable. if you HAUL inside the bed, the weight the back end can handle is around 1300lbs, and thats pushing it. There is absolutely no way a tacoma had 1.5 tons inside the bed and handled fine. i doubt you could even fit that much gravel into one of these beds without it overflowing

I just came out of an F-150 and there is no way I'd try and put 3500 pounds in that much less a Tacoma. I wouldn't try 1000 pounds in the '08 Tacoma I just bought. I'd like to see a pic of the receipt for the gravel. :)

ETA....my trucks are all work trucks, they haul, tow and have to carry my work tools everyday. I don't baby them beyond the first month.

You're wrong. 3600 tons of gravel will end up being about 1.3 cubic yards. A fully loaded bed can hold 1.6 cubic yards. In your face!

I want to see the pancakes you call bump stops.

Because I've hauled 1600lbs of wood pellets once a month for the entire winter last year. I have a 3" lift so I have stronger springs in the back and it STILL was 1" off the bumps with HALF of what you're claiming to have hauled in the bed. There's no fucking way I would willing put over 3,000lbs in a bed rated for 1300. Fuck, even the tundra only hauls 2,000lbs in it's bed.

And nobody questioned towing 3500lbs because the truck is rated for 5,000lbs stock, and 6,500lbs with the factory tow package. RTFM. The 3,500lbs limit is if you put a ball on the bumper and hook a trailer to that.

Not only that, but there's a BIG difference between a shit load in the bed and weight on a trailer. Trailer wieght is supported by the trailer's wheels, axles and brakes, balanced right, and just putting a fraction of the weight on the truck. I hope you don't think the 3,500lbs bumper tow capacity = bed capacity! That 3500 trailer hooked to the bumper should apply less than 500lbs of actual weight pushing down on the back of the truck.
