I have a 2008 Black TRD Sport and I have been noticing around the plate lights and around the edge of the black plastic step there are some rust bubbles starting to form. I am going to take it in this summer to get blasted and painted (along with my tailgate which is rusting along the pinch seam on the bottom. I happened to park next to an identical truck the other day and their bumper was terrible looking. Today I passed one and low and behold their bumper was terrible looking. Anyone else have problems with their painted bumpers?

I am thinking of getting them to use a bed-liner on the bumper this time after it is cleaned up. I wonder if that would last longer.

This is the main reason I like the chrome bumpers. The painted ones start rusting way too easy in my area and look terrible. Although my next Taco will be a sport, I'm hoping I'll find a black one so I could sand blast and rocker guard the bumper.
I see it with other trucks too, especially painted front bumpers, they rust way too early around here.

I have a 2008 with the same bumper problems. Think I'm just going to get a new bumper, have it painted to replace the original.

A few OE parts from fancy trucks
Almost more importantly, crawl under the truck and examine your frame closely. If you see it on things like the bumper, it's working elsewhere too.

Curious, do you have mudflaps in the rear, and are they enough to cover tire spray properly? Of course a lift and/or offset wheels w/big tires would render the mudflaps limited in usefulness.

When you pull the rear bumper and pads, after cleaning and repairs (to fill holes that will appear) I'd use Monstaliners rust encapsulator (like POR15, but their version to seal/stop the existing rust, then treat the inside of the bumper with either their machine paint or a couple coats of Monstaliner. You could do the outside of the bumper with Monstaliner too, if you don't mind a bit of texture, or you could paint it if you prefer that look.

Check out www.Monstaliner.com, and it's unlikely that you'll find other bedliners more appealing.

Thank's for the link! I do keep my truck clean and I had it inspected by Toyota during the frame recall and they passed it with flying colours and just applied their black undercoating. My trailer hitch is looking a little worse for the wear so I am going to sand blast it down and coat it with this Monstaliners materials!

    I really do hate salt...

No problem with mine but i live in sunny SoCal.Thought the chrome would rust before a painted bumper.Factory chrome bumpers aren't the best finish in my opinion. Those who live in those areas such as OP have to deal with weather conditions that are understandable to cause that.
