The axle was in Somerset, KY. A 10 hr trip each way. Well worth it for a cleaned up axle with hell fire knuckles. Dude was cool as shit and threw in a couple of jackstands, motor mounts, other misc yota stuffs.

I got the heavy sumbish unloaded tonight and sitting in the garage. This axle is not for the takama it's for the 4runner. I do not trust an 8" axle on the front of the 2nd gens.

Oh, I thought from the NJ thread this was going on the taco, but since 8 in is too small what would you use? A dana 60?

I don't know much about the 9.5's, what width can you typically find them in?

Idk much about Toyota axles, but with a toy axle it's best to get a custom housing, I know that much. Those land cruisers have the 9.5 and I'm pretty sure they're at least 64"

For the 2nd gen, a dana 60 should be standard with the weight and size of these trucks

The FJ80s are 63.5" WMS-WMS, problem with the rear 9.5" is it is not centered. Some guys have chopped and recentered them and others with moar money just go for a diamond or ruffstuff FF housing and use the 9.5" chunk. The FJ60s I believe had the 9.5" in the front diff, problem is the knuckles are the same size as mini truck knuckle balls so the benefit of running that large ring gear kinda gets offset with the smaller knuckles, the width on those front axles is 60" WMS-WMS. The FJ80 front housing is a HP 8" housing since the tie rod runs behind the axle housing and they have the larger knuckle balls than the mini trucks.

If money were no option I would have just bought 2 9.5" third members and ran diamonds F/R, but my wallet has to compromise at some point especially since I just bought a house. I think the FJ80 housing with the hellfire knuckles will be pretty bombproof on a 1st gen runner since they are much lighter, especially if I upgrade to some RCV front axles in the future. For the rear I will just leave the 4cyl IFS housing in it and run it until it breaks, then upgrade.

    Thank you!

Been using the truck more lately to move some shit into my new place, Craig stopped by today to drop off a PJ shirt and show me the body mount relocate kit I'll be welding on for him soon.

Noticed a grinding noise when I applied the brakes lately, thought maybe I had a rock stuck in the dust shield or something, but it appears my rear drum brakes are shot at 43k miles lmao, down to bare metal. Tomorrow I'll get some new shoes and get the drums cut.

Also the hubmaster (NJ636) let me use his fancy scanner to figure out why my ABS light has been on for the past 2 years haha. Apparently the driver front wheel speed sensor is not reading. I swapped it out with a spare one today and now I'll just have to reset the ABS light at some point. Old one looked like maybe it just had dirt/grease on it but I have a bunch of spares so I just replaced it with a new one.

Sounds good I'll shoot you my new addy over now. Yes it has a 1.5 car attached garage but I'll be building a pole barn out back with a lift so I don't have to bust my ass working under trucks anymore haha

Thanks man, same to you! I guess we'll go from modding trucks to modding houses now lol

Gonna do all mine before Rausch in July... This Uwharrie trip is the last one on the current brakes.
They passed inspection but are getting down there... :(
