    Hey this may be a dumb question but i got a p0340 or what ever code cat below efficiency threshold and eventually im goin turbo. Can long tube headers be used in the turbo system or is that pretty much a custom fab job? My thoughts were go ahead and get headers and not waste money on cats cuz no smog in bama. Gotta love the south, minus the heat and humidity and country music

    unless your doing a remote mount turbo (wouldn't recommend it) headers will not work for you. also most off the shelf headers are not of sufficient material grade and thickness to handle boost pressure and heat

    Yea I'm fine with that, I'm in Liberal California where every mod is going to kill the earth, so to keep everything as smog compliant as possible. I'm leaving the air injec to on stuff and front cats, but I'm gonna throw in the URD Y pipe and just swap out the stock one when I finally have to smog.

    I believe it's the Spec-U headers that apparently won't work with the gussets.. But.. I also think I remember hearing that they did work at some point or another

    Toon714 used the DTLT's on his turbo build. Cut the flanges off and used v-band clamps in their place. Properly supported the turbo, and called it a day. They can work. They are 304ss. He was only using ~8psi though. So there would be some heat, but not as much as running more boost. For the level of his build, those were perfect.

    When PowerFab was making a few turbo kits, they basically fab'd shortie headers, then ran straight tubing off of those, merged similarly to the long tubes routing.

    Short tubes can work as well, give you a pitted extra wiggle room, for exhaust routing, and cost less than long tubes. Make sure you get 304ss headers, and make sure you have a support for the weight of the turbo. As well as a flex coupling in the down pipe.

    Since you aren't building a boost monster, the 304 headers will work well and be cheaper than full custom headers. There will still be a lot of fab work necessary though.

    Ah cool so shorties would be a better bet since they have to be welded anyway and they would be slightly cooler since they are larger correct? Do u have a series of pics of ur hot side going from driver to passenger up to the turbo flange? Ive seen pics of all the pieces laying on a garage floor or somethin but just wanted to get an idea of proximity to everything else (mostly on the bottom most side)

    is there a benifit to having the down pipe longer as ur pictures or shorter like james? is there a rule of thumb to go by?

    I believe you are referring to a component by a different name. The down pipe is from the turbine outlet. Is tgat what you are referring to or did you mean the cross-over tubing?
