Ha. Have you ever driven to the top of Maine? It's bigger than most people think. Takes 6 to 7 hours to drive to through the state south to north.

I'll likely stay at that same campground. I don't mind primitive camping, but if I'm not backpacking I see no need not to stay somewhere without running water and showers

 

Found a set of the toyota rock rails on cl for cheap. Trying to decide if I should grab them or get a set with kickout that I could use as a step. Ideally I'd like these:http://www.metaltech4x4.com/p-239-fj-cruiser-step-slider-w-2-stage-rub-rail.aspx

But I could pick up the oem ones for cheap and the removable nfab steps to them for significantly cheaper

 

Might be picking up a gmc 2500 if all goes as planned .

 

Wow those Metaltech one's aren't cheap. What do other vendors offer?

That's exactly how i passed the time and everthing else when i had my colonoscopy!
Rig is good,needs work but it's a blast to wheel!

 

Other vendors offer the standard tube style with kickout some with optional fill plates. Pretty much the same as taco sliders, anywhere from $315+ . I think Alex has the toyota rock rails. From the internets the toyota rails ate more than strong enough, just can't use them as steps which is why I would have to get the nfab removable steps for them.

 

Depending on how seriously you plan to wheel the FJ, I'd get sliders with the kick out. Seems like that kick out can really save you from damage plus give you a nice step to stand on while washing the roof or using the cargo rack.

 

Ya that's what I'm leaning towards. I'm just cheap and like to save money where I can, but rocker panel damage isn't cheap...

This is true. Sliders seem like they'd be a big investment, but when you figure the cost of sliders vs the cost of replacing a rocker panel and having it color matched the sliders are a hell of a bargain
