    Hello TW,

My truck was recently smashed by a nasty hail storm. I need a new hood & windsheild. The roof is a mess also but that's annother story.

I'm looking for replacement hood options for a 2012 TRD Double cab.

    - Primer black is fine, I'll just leave it black.
    - will install myself..easy.
    - I'd like to avoid the Toyota dealership if possible.
    - We all know that the scoop is just for aesthetics. Is there any logic to support that the scoop would help provide some passive cooling of the engine bay?
    - any reason NOT to purchase one of these?

    Any suggestions out there?

    Cheers,
    Salt

Here's the same one with free shipping.
Anybody know what the scoop mesh insert is called?

The scoop is purely aesthetic. It provides absolutely no functional purpose. It does not allow air into the engine area as it is completely blocked by plastic. You'll end up paying a lot more trying to find a hood with a scoop than you will just a regular hood.

I've got a local body shop (on my insurance's "approved list") quoting out a replacement hood with two different paint colors. Flat black or Sliver Streak to match...I'm thinking i'll go flat black unless it's stupid expen$ive.

Just for information. You do not have to go with an " approved body shop ".

Yup, thanks. My insurance company just cut me a check. I ordered a OEM windshield & hood from a local body shop. I'm having the hood painted flat black. Maybe I'll have the tailgate painted also. :)
