Yeah... not real happy about the cap but the one on my Tacoma was definitely functional. It's mainly for the dog, he's going to be moved to the bed for long trips once baby #2 comes.

Looks good Mike. Having kids forces you to be functional unfortunately

They are functional, I will admit. I just don't care for how they tend to make a truck look. But, I have an old 80's style ghetto cap that gets put on the Toyota when we go winter camping, to keep the gear dry. But as soon as I get home it gets pulled off, lol.

    That's the truth!
If and when I have a place to store it, I will do the same. If I end up with a place that has a garage, I'll rig up a hoist system. The small garage I have now, the truck doesn't even fit into it and I don't think the ceiling joists would support the weight of the shell.

I ordered up all new hardware for the shell also. The guy I got it from didn't have the key and the dealer wanted $75 for a new core and an hour of labor to install it. I found a new handle, cable and latch complete with mounting hardware for $100. The good thing is, the guy I got the cap from traded me straight across for my Bakflip tonneau! I didn't have to put out any cash and worry about selling that thing.

That's a good deal for the cap.

    Hell of a deal, then.
My old ghetto cap is standard 80's construction--uninsulated aluminum with an aluminum frame. The whole thing only weighs about 100lbs, so I can install/remove it on my own without too much trouble. Looks like crap, but it doesn't leak, so I don't care.

Of course. Been all over Maine. Millinocket, Presque Isle/Caribou, Jackman, Greenville, driven the Golden Road.

Just haven't done is the North Maine Woods, but I know how big it is.

8 hours would just get me to the southernmost checkpoints/entry points.

    Zing!

Although, an F150 with a cap is more of an old man vehicle than a Wrangler.
Those are more of a chick car these days.

Yeah, I made out alright. The tonneau is one of those tri-fold ones with aluminum panels inside so not just a $300 vinyl one. It was a pretty expensive tonneau cover but still no where near the cost of a cap. The cap is a Leer 100XR so it has some upgraded features.

    Nope

98 I believe . My old man just bought a 2015 Chevy 1500 so I might get his old 2500. Runs great only has 120k on it . He bought it new in 98 .

Sweet looking cap, and an awesome deal you got there! I am contemplating getting a cap to haul all of my survey equipment around in, but I think it would be troublesome getting stuff out of the bed that is right up against the cab.

If I had an 11 MPG 6.0 I'd have low mileage on it too. :D

The GF's dad has a GMC 2500 with the 6.0, and the best he's ever gotten is 13. Good power, but he complains about the mileage all the time. During the winter with a plow on the front he's in the single digits.
