moderate lift questions

Considering options for a moderate lift (< 3", more like 2" to hopefully keep stock UCA's within alignment specs) without using 5100's to get better quality ride for my daily driver. Goal is simply to fix the rake (after TSB) and get a better stance. I've abused the TW search feature, but keep coming back to some questions that I can't find a straight answer. Hopefully someone can answer (I'm sure chris4x4 and jdkeller are all over this one )...

1. OME 884 are "not recommended" to be used with double cabs (mine) due to "sag" issues. I'm ok with an initial sag due to the extra cab weight (not looking for full 3" lift). Does this sag continue over time (i.e. creep) or does it settle in at say, 2" of lift and stay permanently? I've read older OME springs like the 881 seem to sag forever, thus the concern. If they don't continually creep, what final lift could one expect on a DC?

2. Can the Eibach 1.6" springs be used with the small spacers to fix the taco lean? For that matter, can they be used with slightly bigger spacers to get closer to a 2" lift, like 3/8" on passenger and 5/8" on driver side? I do light off-roading, so small spacers may not be a big deal for me.

my 5100's on stock springs served me well up to my current setup with the All Pro LT kit..i had them set to the max lift in the front, performance and feel was greatly improved over the stock setup. plus, they are a great value!! Sonny from DownSouthMotorSports.com can prolly hook you up on a great deal..and his customer service is highly praised as outstanding

No bias. Just have read some concerns/complaints about ride quality at the 1.75 and 2.5 settings. Thought it would be worthwhile to spend a few bucks more for new coils. If I end up with Eibach's, prolly will still get the 5100's.

 

I have the Eibach, Nice ride. happy with them. If I could do over would go with 5100's

I just made a move for the same reason, except.. I over shot it by 1 inch. Now, I will have to add the TSB AAL from Toytec to fix it. I put the 886 coils up front with the spacers.. that being said, measure the height of the front fender and rear fender.. I had three inches of difference before starting on mine. if you have 3 inches of difference, buy the 885 coils with no spacer, install and align.. your done.

Firestone got mine aligned after a 3+" lift on the front with a TSB back.. Stock UCAs. Don't do the 884s, just go 885 with NO Spacers.. My 2 Cents. Look at my photo's if you want to see the end result.

Edit: I glanced at what you have, sounds like you have the same thing I do.. 4x4 DC TRD OR, after the TSB back end the "plow" effect was too much.

 

Based on what I've read on TW, 885's w/o spacers usually gives 2.5"-2.75" of lift. I've got 1-5/8" rake now w/o the TSB, and am thinking that should increase to about 2-5/8" after getting the TSB. I was hoping to get closer to 2" in the front to have a little rake when all done, so that's why I'm considering the 884's and Eibachs. I prolly just need to suck it up and get the Toytec adjustable coils and remove all doubt.

 

Do it right the first time, if you have doubt now.............. if it isn't right, it will annoy you. 5100's at 1.75 is another good option.

No worries with losing that 2" over time?

 

I don't see what the issue is with just going 2.5 on 5100s with the TRD coils. I have this setup with the Toytec spacer to cure the lean on driver side. This is my daily driver & it rides great, no harsh bouncing nothing. Out back still got the 3 leaf crap pack with Toytec 1.5 AAL. Sits just shy of level, little over inch higher in back. No load issues, no vibration, no alignment issues & no crappy ride for daily driving.

 

Damn, if it rode any better than it does now I'd be ridin in a buick or caddy or some other cushy floaty land yacht type thing. Si, es muy chinanigantastico! Off road I could see it being better not being preloaded tho.

Here are the specs from ARB, including length, spring rate and expected lift.

The 884 and 885 run the same rate at 590lbs/in with the 886 coils bumped to 660 lbs/in. Length is as follows:

OME884 390mm, 590lbs/in, 1 inch of lift
OME885 395mm, 590lb/in, 1.5 to 2 inches of lift
OME886 402mm, 660lbs/in, 2.5-3+ inches of lift
Factor TRD Tacoma springs, 14 inches long, 540lbs/in, 0 lift

These springs should only be run with the OME N140S shock; the factory Tokico and Bilstein units will not last with these springs due to their increased spring rate and length. The 886 springs are only recommended for trucks with heavy front bumpers and armor (skid plates).
