I went to dealer to test drive a 15 and the sales person told me to wait for the 16. Maybe some dealerships wants 15s left in stock when the new ones comes out?? They had about 20 tacos in total

Production starts July 15. That's exciting. My dealer hasn't been too informative. I am not above buying somewhere else.

It's scheduled to start the 15th. One maxim I've lived my life by is that "no plan survives contact with the enemy." With my luck, retooling the line will take an extra couple weeks, and they won't have the 2016 in the ordering computer until (*gasp*) August.

Production date of July 15th, eh? I imagine specs won't be released until first batch is sent to dealer lots.

Really interested in the ordering process. I've always just bought off the lot, but really like the idea of customizing. But I would imagine your paying full MSRP then correct, is there any haggling on a ordered Tacoma?

Look earlier in this thread. There is a detailed reply on this subject. Short answer: Toyota does not do special orders. Dealer add-ons may be a possibility but nothing special from the factory

"Special ordering" is simply the hijacking of a dealer allocation. They enter into the system what they want to see on the lot, and maybe Toyota builds and ships that to them. I've been told that there are super secret ratios that set percentage limits on certain models, but even the sales folks aren't aware of what those ratios are.

Toyota is more compartmentalized than the NSA.

As for ordering, I have done up a worksheet with the dealership and they are holding that particular allocation for me. Whenever it is built, of course.

I was told by a Toyota representative that it was going to take 5 to 6 weeks of retooling at the plants before the 16 tacos would start being built. That would mean they have already quit production of the 15s???

Why would they deal with a single buyer in the fleet dept?

I accidentally ended up working with a fleet salesman, he was happy to work with us and sell us a new vehicle.

Its not discontinued. The 4runner and tundra are coming back as pros for 2016. The Tacoma hasn't been confirmed and is probably unlikely for 2016.

So what's best guesstimate they start rolling into dealers?
