Should I wait for the 2016?

At least wait for specs to come out if you can. No sense in judging a truck based of off online forum hearsay.

 

I didn't say everything was better on the 2nd gen Tacoma than the Colorado. What I said was as far as I'm concerned I liked the Tacoma better. Never did I dis the truck or say anything bad about it. I myself am waiting for the 2016. As a matter of fact I'm on the ferry crossing lake Champlain as we speak headed to the dealer to put a deposit down on one.

Except you could lose several thousand dollars this way by being impatient.

 

Or better yet.... buy a 13' to trade in for a car then trade for a Tundra for a few weeks then trade for 15' only to wait patiently for the specs of the 16' Tacoma

 

Sorry, I thought you comparing a new Canyon to a 2nd Gen Tacoma. 3rd Gen is a different story I'm sure it will be much better competition. Good luck with your purchase.

For the record, my new 2015 Tacoma should be at the dealership this week. When I read about how much better the Canyon/Colorado's are I laugh out loud every time. My 2015 Canyon was a 40,000.00 mistake. My 2009 Tacoma was a much better truck than my new Canyon. I gave GM another shot and they blew it.

It's all in what you prefer/want!I don't care for the exterior or interior of the new 3rd gen.2016.New engine,supposive better gas mpg,6 speed auto trans,etc.might be what you desire more than the last of the 2nd gen.2015.I'm sure the new 3rd gen.will grow on me possibly in the future but i'm just to much in love with my 2012 Tacoma!Might want to consider some of the bugs that may have to be worked out on the new 3rd gen.Good luck in your decision!

 

You could have gotten the Trifectta Tune and it would have solved your shift problems. After the tune my truck shifts great. I came from a 2010 Tacoma and their is no comparison to the 2015 Canyon. Maybe you just got a bad truck I love mine and 4,000 trouble free miles.

 

So you needed to get a "tune" to make your vehicle shift correctly? That doesn't sound like trouble free miles.

Id rather do that than wait 8+ months for a rusted frame to be replaced. Good thing my 06 was in WA with no rust otherwise I would have been hauling my Grizzly 600 on the roof of a rental Yaris.

 

I would rather buy a vehicle that the manufacturer stands behind, has a proven track record, and has exceptional resale value.

 

You will not go wrong either way. Toyota makes great trucks.

Here is why I bought my 2015:
1) The otto-cycle 4.0 will have a better torque curve than the atkinson cycle 3.5, though the 3.5 will deliver better fuel economy. It will also try and make up for the torque with an extra gear. Torque largely tracks displacement, though HP is another story. I estimate the 3.5 will have less HP and less torque than the Colorado 3.6, but deliver slightly better fuel economy. I feel the CAFE 2025 fuel economy requirements will drive compromised designs, like putting car engines in trucks (as both GM and Toyota have done), lower ground clearances, air dams (of course removable), ect.
2) I always wanted to supercharge the 4.0 (I love torque), and I knew that the TRD supercharger would never be available for an atkinson cycle 3.5. (though I didn't foresee the program being terminated so abruptly). With the supercharger I will have more Hp and way more torque than the 3.5L ever could.
3) I like to tinker and modify my trucks, and the 2nd gen has massive aftermarket support. The 3rd gen will too, eventually. But for the next several years options will be limited and prices at a premium. This is really important to me as I don't want to just buy a truck, I want to build it.
4) I knew I could get a better deal negotiating a 2015, whereas when the 2016s come out, I think if you can pay sticker you will be lucky in my area.
5) Call me odd, but I like old school. Buying a new 10 year old truck is strangely appealing to me. Especially with a tried and true vetted design. I'm also not a fan of electronic gizmos and nannies. A truck should be simple and I appreciate that in a pickup.
6) I've always liked the 2nd gen styling and not a fan of the 3rd gen front grill

Reasons why you may consider the 2016:
1) Best in class fuel economy. The Toyota 3.5 will get better fuel economy than the Colorado 3.6. It has the same style of engine as a Prius (without the electric hybrid) which is somewhat brilliant. It will also have more HP than the stock 4.0.
2) Cutting edge tech. The last Tacoma is 10 years old, Win XP was cutting edge at the time. Yeah... Crawl control modes, in dash digital displays, dual climate control, projector lamps, go pro mount, and more it will truly be a modern vehicle.
3) Crawl control. Kind of like a select dial range rover.
4) Upgraded interior, if you want to dress to impress
5) It will drive better than the 2nd gen. Designs simulation and simulation analysis today couldn't hold a candle to what was avail when the 2nd gen was designed.
6) It will stand apart from the Tacomas of the last 10 years.


Note that these are educated speculations on the new truck. You can call me out if I am wrong when numbers are published but I am confident. It really comes down to personal preference. If you can drive both that is obviously ideal, though I will not regret buying my 2015 but then I like old school. I usually advise people toward the latest tech.

Remember that the 3.5 is not just Atkinson cycle, Toyota said it will be Atkinson/Otto hybrid with both DI and port fuel injection, so best of both worlds (torque and fuel economy).

 

I thought it was growing on me...but god damn that shot just confirms how fucking ugly that thing this.
To think it took 'em three years to come up with that...
