I've got a 2014 TRD Sport and live in a rural area, so no sitting in traffic. I changed to engine to Mobil 1, changed the front and read differentials to Red Line, installed a Toneau cover and I've gotten 21+ mpg the last three tanks.

Not sure I follow your logic here. I assume that higher octane gasoline equals less maintainence. I disagree my cousin has an 06 Prerunner V6 he's only ever used 87 octane forget his miles 155k or so. Nothing outside routine maintainance. The key more than anything is keeping up with the routine stuff. If you do that you'll be fine or have a much higher likelyhood to.

They didn't change things partly because they didn't need to from a competition standpoint(being the number selling midsize) the other factor would be changes in regulations that require trucks to get better MPG over time.

It worked out for Toyota in this case since no one else made a major change (until GM for 2015) Toyota had no reason to make a Gen change till 2016. The gen 3 will have to get better MPG as now its a FDOT requiement and the new Canyon\Colorado has superior MPG.

I get 20.5mpg with the 4x4 v6 manual trans with a dirt bike in the bed going 60mph speedo indicated, cruise control for 200 miles. At 70mph it's about 19.5mpg at 75-80 it's 18.5 to 19mpg; all these are on I-25 going to and from Phoenix, AZ and Denver, CO (~800 miles each way).

Around town and commuting which is 50/50 highway and city to me, is not too bad for my driving style which I tend to mix jack-rabbit starts and slow/regular starts about 50% of the time each, and I get 17mpg. I don't have the off-road version though and have the stock 245 Dunlop tires. In winters I get 1-2 worse mpg on each end.

Yes, in this case your foot controls your wallet. I got terrible mileage with my dedicated winter snow tires, about 15mpg. When I switched back to my all seasons this spring and kept my speed about 65 mph my gas mileage on the highway jumped to 20 mpg. Not having owned a Toyota pickup before I assumed they got good gas mileage especially since the big trucks now are getting amazing numbers.

If your truck is bone stock you should see an average of 18-20 mpg

My lifted DCLB 4x4 with 20's and 34's get 18 in summer. BUT i just did all freeway miles doing 80 and only got 14.5. Depends on the kinda driving youre doing

I dont know how dudes are breaking 20mpg. Good for them. I am lucky to get 17, and to get that I need to do 60 on the highway which makes me feel like I am not moving and straight out of that scene in dumb and dumbe

    OP's a no show guys.

For the record I got 20.7 in my Baja doing 65 - 75 on the hwy with about 200lbs in the bed. A good bit of idling as well when we got caught in hwy road construction.

These trucks are not very forgiving to heavy foot driving. If you're the sort that jack rabbits to stop lights then you will get horrible mileage.

Enjoy life and STOP worrying about how many miles your going to get... You already have the truck and probably purchased it because everything else outweighs the MPG... There are other things to worry about in no particular order plastidip all badges, new wheels and tires, lift kit, and all other accessories you don't really need And most likely will lower you MPG anyway.

The best MPG I've gotten on my 2011 access cab was 18.5 and that was babying (keeping it below 70). My regular driving gets me between 16- 17MPG. And the worst MPG was on a 350 mile trip going at 90 MPH was 14.7 MPG... But damn I love my truck!!

Averaged 20.1 over my second ever fill up - not bad considering I drive 30/70 city/highway. Also, I am light on the pedal, since this is not a performance vehicle to begin with.
