I dunno, they make the Dyna...wheelbase about the same as a HiLux/Tacoma. I used to own a VW Bus...forward control vehicle is real easy for running around town...at least to me it was. Believe why a place like Europe favors the C/O's...super easy to get into tight spaces/streets with out having to deal with the extra length of the hood.

    Even make a 4WD, 4-Wheel Steer version.

Yeah, the base models look dis-proportioned and silly. Higher end, 4x4, double cab models look ok with some nice paint on them but this model just looks like a cartoon.

Same cabs. Sounds like minor changes were made to the structure of the cab though to toughen it up. I had a link about it a few pages back.

Ford did the same thing with the F150. There are minor changes but the moment you get in your realize the cab is relatively the same size and dimensions. Evolutionary rather than revolutionary seems to be the idea with cabs on remodeled trucks now.

Some reasons why I suspect this is not a clean sheet redesign and cabs are the same.

-Less R&D costs to be passed on to customer
    - Keeping basic cab and frame (2016 frame is improved but basically the same) means they can more easily maintain their high crash test rating on 2016 models
    - Size does not need to be changed like it did going from Gen 1 to Gen 2. Dimensions are satisfactory for most in mid-size market
    - Customer surveys showed most were happy with Gen 2 styling and did not want a huge departure from Gen 2
    - Toyota by nature is very conservative with it's trucks, emphasis is placed on quality, dependability and reliability over revolutionary styling and performance specs
    - Keeping the bones of the truck the same means new frames can be produced for frame rot recall while simultaneously producing frames for Gen 3 models.

    Probably other reasons too.

I for one like the fact that it's not a huge departure from the 2nd gen style. Means my 2011 won't look "old" (on the outside anyway) for quite a while.

Yeah, if the specs of the 2016 aren't impressive I will just get a slightly used gen 2 model. Gen 2 Tacomas still look very modern even though they are 10 years old now.

The 2nd generation design is still one of the better looking trucks on the road IMHO.

The biggest difference between the 3rd and 2nd generation will be the engine and the interior gadgets. The 3rd generation finally has most of the bells and whistles that every other vehicle on the market has. If you don't care about mpg or creature comforts then a used 2nd generation truck will suit your needs better.

A paid-off truck with mediocre gas mileage > a financed truck with good gas mileage. My $.02 anyway. Only reason I have held onto my 2002. lol

Yup, plus a lot of newer parts should be interchangeable.
I bet there will be someone with 2 gen that likes that front to do the swap :D
Your 2011 will also not sound like lawnmower getting up the hill

Very true, especially its highly unlikely gas mileage is goign to be that impressive.
If my 07 is getting 17 -21 MPG on average even with 87 octane. and new truck promises 19-24 on premium. I get no savings. Truck would have to be able to get 20 - 26 MPG to finally give any saving.

Yeah, but when you can own it AND get good mileage? Win.

I went to NY auto show and at the time I went there was nobody around Tacoma, I was waiting for tumble weeds to start rolling.
Truck was locked and no easy access to it. Couldn't even to get good look at everything, felt stupid being the only guy standing next to it.

Where are you getting the information that the new Tacoma will require premium. I highly doubt Toyota would go that direction. If anything they may have two profiles. A power profile for premium which gives more torque and a normal program for regular gas.

Why is that other automakers are revealing specs for their 2016 models but nothing with the Tacoma?

Your truck does two things. It works and it's paid for. The new Tacoma would only do one of those things for you.

Same reason GM isn't confirming specs on the Diesel Colorado or mpg. New engines tend to have there specifications wrapped up nearly until release because adjustments are still likely being made.

And yet you know what it sounds like going up hill and you know exactly how the engine will behave. I'm sick of seeing your dumb avatar in third gen threads... You don't like the truck, we get it... Now GTFO
