Did you get the flavorless ON BCAA powder? I did once...mistake. Tastes like shiiit. In ON's defense, apparently all flavorless BCAA tastes like shit. I had to mix mine with pre-workout

Also, check out Orange Triad multi's; they're cheap as fuq and it's got joint and digestion support

I did get the flavorless and it tastes a little funky but I barely notice it. I mix it with 24oz of water and just drink as I'm thirsty throughout my workout. Maybe others don't dilute it as much as I do.

I'll take a look at the orange triads.

Yeah my morning intake is so low in carbs. Almost none actually. I need to structure my diet better around my workouts (before/after). I tend to get the most carbs now at mid day, about 3 hours after my workout. Good whole grains and granolas, no preservatives. I guess it's back to juicing before my workouts, which is primarily leafy greens, carrots, apples, and peppers.

I still have about half of my tub. I was thinking about buying some Gatorade powder to mix with it or something.

I'm with ya. Really don't eat many carbs until after I workout. I just can't handle much more than to choke down a shake first thing in the morning.
I would think if you mixed it with anything flavorful it wouldn't be too bad.

Anyone ever done a few weeks of the steak and eggs diet? I am not advocating it because of health issues and the lack of fiber/nutrients but I think it could work in short bursts to drastically reduce stubborn fat. Thoughts?

Might as well just do Atkins and keep carbs below 20 net, and get them primarily from vegetables. I'm not a red meat guy very much, so I'd have a hard time with steak all the time. Now eggs... that's a different story. I could do eggs every day. And shrimp...

I've never tried it or anything like it but I'm sure it would work to reduce fat and that's about it. Your gym performance would likely suffer drastically due to no carbs. I'd be interested to hear from someone who has tried it.

I would never get tired of steak and eggs, though....

All that is is a strict keto diet. I love steak and eggs, but I love my carbs, too. Also, there's no shittier feeling than being in ketosis. Your body naturally uses carbs (glycogen) for energy, so making your body switch to using ketones for energy is a miserable process. Once in ketosis, I hear it's not so bad (you get used to it, I guess), but for the 3-4 weeks I tried the keto diet, I had no energy and had headaches...I did, however, lose fat.

I'm not saying it doesn't work, I'm just saying the switch to no carbs sucks.

Also, you have to have carb-ups or you're going to deplete your glycogen stores and working out (as well as other physical activity) will be an absolute nightmare

Truth right here. Once in ketosis, you'll feel warm all the time and get considerable orthostatic hypotension (dizzy when you stand up). Workouts will greatly suffer. Your metabolism automatically downshifts as well, but it does cut fat very quickly.

Remember, the brain needs fat energy for proper function. You'll also feel slow and clumsy, and forget things easily. It's a trippy process.

Yes, Keto + intermittent fasting with carb refeads every 5 days. Always trying different things. I am going to give it a whirl for only two weeks before I start my normal nutrition plan and report back.

On a different note, I have been doing a lot of spearfishing and remote camping/hiking. Anyone have any recommendations on light meals to pack when you dont have access to a cooler? What type of bars, jerky, etc. do you like?

We usually get one solid meal of fish or meat once a day when out and the rest is either light snacks or nothing at all usually back to back days. Trying to prevent loosing too much size.

I use Biltong, its like jerky but its traditionally from south africa(I'm original from there and its basically a staple treat) but now produced here in Norther america.

Its protein content per 100g serving ranges from 40-55g of dehydrated beef. When i camp, hike, fish or go out and about always have a bunch of it on me. I buy big slabs and cut them into "sticks" and its actually an amazing item to consume for working out

If you carry a hydration bladder, look at mixing some tailwind in it. It's entirely carbs so good if your on your feet for a long time. They market it to endurance athletes and I know a lot of people who swear by it. For hiking, I'd definitely eat real food, too but the tailwind will keep your calorie intake and blood sugar up so you aren't crashing. Plus..electrolytes!!!!!! lol...just an idea for you to look at

Mountain House and Backpacker's Pantry are probably my favorite dehydrated meals. You really have to look at the stats on each one though, while considering flavor. They have high carbs, sodium and preservatives. If you're supplementing with daily meat, that will help your protein. Here are a couple favorites on those meals:

    • Backpacker's Pantry Louisiana Red Beans and Rice
    • Backpacker's Pantry cajun chicken and rice
    • Mountain House Beef Stroganoff
    • Mountain House chicken with rice or chicken with noodles
    • Don't get any of the powdered eggs products, especially from MH
Can't go wrong with Jerky. You get the salt boost and there's carbs in the marinades. Best way to carry protein, IMO. You'll also be getting good protein from the beans and rice meals, and some slow release carbs.

For breakfasts, I get good high protein granola mixes from my local healthy grocer (Sprouts, if you have them). Cooks up into a nice oatmeal even with just water. Add some peanut butter powder as a thickener and protein boost.

Thank you for the recommendations. Heading out this weekend but will look into both of those for the future.

From what I hear, if you can make it past the 2-3 week mark, you don't have all the shitty symptoms. your workouts are going to suffer, no matter what though, especially on your days furthest away from your refeed b/c your going to be so depleted of glycogen; a result of this is getting weaker and muscle-loss. I'd rather just stick with my carbs and have plenty of fuel for my workouts, but like you said, it's good to try new things...it may be what works for you. It just didn't work for me.

When we go deep sea fishing or fishing on the river all day (1-2 times a month), I usually bring beenie weenies and other canned crap like that. I kind of use it as a cheat day with chips and other stuff, as well. Sometimes I'll go all out and pack a cooler, but usually I just eat junk and drink a lot of booze  haha

taking a ferry then 10 to 12 mile hike so single backpack and dive gear is all I get. No cooler and no booze for me this trip. Becoming a minimalist is actually pretty fun.
