Only in this thread can you go from serious suspension talk after serious tire talk to boobies with such a seemless transition...I love my build...

Well keep in mind that coil spacers on an 80 are way different than a coil spacer on a Tacoma. It's not going to preload the springs or anything like that. Just adds height. As long as your shocks are long enough to work, there's really no difference in running a spacer vs. not.

Yeah that's true in how it rides but it does limit your uptravel as the springs are likely to fully compress before the bumpstops strike. It's still a trade off to having the correct spring. I will likely end up with some just to correct side to side type stuff and if I get it too low on one end or the other...

It won't change the amount of travel at all. It's true that you might not contact the bump stops unless you drop them to match the amount of added height from the spacers, but either way the coil is going to compress and extend the same amount, and the coils free height does not change, with or without a spacer. If anything the bumpstop is going to stop the coil from compressing as far as it might be able to so that would be what limits your travel.

I agree with you. In my mind I see coil bind before bumpstop engagement. I have seen it on heeps and it's not a good thing. Considering we are talking about heavy duty coils lifting 4"+ and then a spacer I don't think it is an issue running them but spacers on stock springs equals coil bind to me so I have just tried to avoid them. Again I will likely end up with at least 2 to account for lean.

here's a pic from when I was swapping the suspension on mine. The red coil is the crappy Skyjacker coil. The black one is the OME J coil with the spacer on top. There is no preload or pre-compression of the coil with or without the spacer. It's about the same thing as if the coil bucket was lower on the frame. Just adds lift, that's all.

And FWIW, I've never seen a coil bind up on an 80, even with much larger spacers than these. The way the link suspension is setup the coils don't get much bend in them when they compress. Toyota engineers>Jeep Engineers

and btw, I'm not trying to convince you to run a spacer. Just discussing how they work on these trucks.
