Yes. The 2016 Tacoma and it's Akinson engine are a new, modern iteration of a proven off-road/light duty pickup truck design. I see the new Tacoma merely as an evolution of that truck's brilliant track record toward modernity.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
DI engines don't necessarily require higher octane. The issue with non DI engines is as the fuel air mixture gets compressed, it's temperature rises together. With DI, only the air is compressed and the fuel is added at the end of the compression, doing two things: Cooling the air and not getting compressed as much as the air. 91 octane is generally recommended for the Lexus because that is what Toyota uses on the dyno when measuring HP and Torque. Using anything less will net less power but won't necessarily *ping.*

The current Tacoma *pings*, not because of octane, but because some people drive it on the highways too much or drive slowly, keeping RPM's low. Over time, carbon builds up and it can become a "glow plug" of sorts and detonate the fuel air mixture, 91 octane or not. Its recommended to use high quality gas (gas with higher amounts of nitrogen based additives) to avoid this in ALL engines and if you drive at low RPMs all the time, use cleaning additives every once in a while (or splurge a little in the 3-4k rpm range).

At least google the damn subject before posting.

Well sheesh, it's no wonder this conversation won't go anywhere. People like you and gincoma that keep beating a dead horse. And then the guy has to resort to 3rd grade name calling "your the dumbest dumb person on here." Really?! HAHA what are we 5?

    So 7GR...

I wonder what's the compression ratio will be like? Anybody think or know if they're going with 11:1 or higher? I've seen the hyundai turbo motors run 12:1 with 87 octane and it's a DI motor too.

I believe most of the 2GR family is around the 10.5-11 mark. So I'd guess somewhere in there.

Plus Atkinson motors vent off a little compression technically right?
