I just bought a 06 sr5 tacoma access cab trd 4x4. It has 98,000 on it. It was a lease with 1 owner. I had wrongly assumed that all the service was completed at a Toyota dealer/garage. Basically from 10,000 to 90,000 I have no idea what was done to it. Yesterday I changed the Plugs, fluid in both diffs, changed the oil with mobil 1 and put a k&n oil filter in it, greased the drive shaft, flushed to the coolant, did it all to Toyota specs. The air filter looks ok, going to put a pro dry in it. And changed the cabin air filter that was way dusty. What else do I do? I have no idea how often this guy serviced it.

That's great ! Congratulations on the truck and the quick maintenance job ! Over 30,000 a year. Someone did a lot of driving. Hopefully it was a lot of highway driving not much stop and go. Mine had 132,000 when I lost it to rust but it still ran great. I did have to do the water pump plus all the stuff that you did.

I'd do a condenser service. And check the brakes.

Nice, congrats on the new truck! You did so many good things with changing everything....... the only other thing I would do is get your transmission fluid changed

What does the service manual say about a 90K mile service? My wife's Sequioa recommended a serpentine belt/water pump change. We also changed a couple of seals while they were in there. I'd assume the tacoma is similar but don't know. My 2006 is at 28K miles and going strong. :D

Edit: I'd also recommend cleaning the throttle body (just did that today on the Sequoia, 131,000 and still going).

At least visually inspect the serpentine for cracking.

Thanks for all the input, I had a friend check the truck out minimally before buying it and said the discs were at 90% and drums at 60% which I thought was pretty good. I was just worried if the previous owner went a long stretch without an oil change. Should I seafoam it? The belt looks good. What about the fuel filter?

you shouldve sea foamed it before you changed all the plugs and what not. or just put the old crap back in first then seafoam it

X2 on cleaning the throttle body. I did mine recently, big improvement.

I was told by the dealer & an authorized toyota service center to only change the belt if it is squeeling. Also the water pump doesn't get changed at a set interval. These trucks also have a timing chain that won't need replacing till 250k miles(I think that is what Chris4x4 said on the chain). My 05 truck has 130k miles. I have done all the regular maint. I just replaced the factory battery a month ago(5 year old battery,Wow!).

    No problems so far.

The fuel filter is designed to be a lifetime unit, it's internal to the gas tank. Nigh impossible to change, so I wouldnt worry about it.

    Nice work on the fluids/plugs/driveshaft.

My '06 SR5 DC is a very similar story. Bought it with 15k miles and did not get a single service record on it. The dealer gave it a thorough inspection before the bumper-to-bumper ran out on it though. I'm not too concerned.

How often do you need to clean the throttle body. I put Techron in the gas tank every once in awhile. I think that's for fuel injectors, maybe cleaning the throttle body too. Thanks Curious George.

I'm not sure on required duration but I don't think the gas is going to do much for carbon build up in the TB. I just cleaned the TB on my wife's Sequoia for the first time in 130K miles because the dealership recommended we pay them to do it... Often times I'll just pay their steep fees because it's easy, but right now that's more $ in my pocket to buy the kids Christmas presents so I figured I'd spend a few hours and clean it and do some other misc maintainance. For the record, it was pretty dirty.

    Thanks. I only have 15000, I guess I'll check it at 30,000.
